Rim and tire question
i'm looking at 205-40-16 tires on 16 inch rims.. but i don't get how tire sizes work. I looked on tirerack.com and they said 205-55-16. Will the tires im looking at work?

yes they will work..your just gonna have less tire than a 55...so If your car is dumped you wheels wont look as big..and if your car is stock..well IMO it's gonna look gay I like 16'' rims

What kind of car do you have, year, trim, 4cyl/v6, sedan/coupe? You want to keep the same outer diameter as your stock tire size otherwise it will play hell with your speedo.

Re: Rim and tire question (I got the CD5 Jeebies!)
First one: The length (in milimetres) across the TOP of the tire (...where the tread is)
Second one: The RATIO of the height of the sidewall, to the width of the tire (on top, where the tread is). The lower the number (30, let's say) the lower the profile. The higher the number -- i.e. closer to the ratio being 1 (50, 60, perhaps?) -- the higher the sidewall, the higher the profile, the more you look like a 4X4. But hey, maybe you WANT that!
Third One: The DIAMETRE of tire. Measured from the inside of the tire wall.

Re: Rim and tire question (kbanks45)
Ok, I did the math.
You're stock outer diameter is 24.47 inches with 185/65/15 tires. If you want 16" wheels with a wider tire then your best tire size to keep it close to stock, would be 215/50/16 (24.46) , but that is significantly larger than stock. Maybe go up to 17" wheels, or drop it down to 195 tread width.
Tread width/aspect ratio/wheel width
tread width * aspect ratio * 2 /2540 + wheel width = outer diameter

how far off would my speedo be if i was 205-40-16?

I have a set of 16 inchers on my accord coupe, and I went with a 205/45/16 and they arent too think and neither too thin but the wheel/tire set still looks aggressive. I bought the tires from tirerack.com and they recommended fuzions. Check it out, i've had them for 2 years and not a single issue and they wear down so evenly and so slowly its outrageous.

8.3% so, thats 8.3 mph per 100mph. Not something you want. I would suggest getting the 17" rims, you'll get the thinner tire, and like on my car, I have 17" and I wish I had 18" because they would look better.

Re: Rim and tire question (msedacca)
HEY, white, black, green, it doesn't matter, if you got it, you got it. It's nothing wrong with 17's. I'm just a wheel freak. I told you already, I'm going as big as I can without raising my car. One day, that 21x7.5 will come out, and I will be all over it!!!! Besides, you need to post some pic's man... You've seen my ride, I'm waiting to see yours...

SSHHHIIIITTT!!!! Your the baller. You've spent more money then me. Looks good though. I like your muffler set up. What kind are those? Is it loud? Did you lose anything from the low end?? I'm looking to do the same on my 4 banger, but I'm not looking for any gains. I just don't want it to be loud, and keep the same acceleration. Is that Y pipe a 2.25 in size???
