Default Removing/replacing Gas Tank?

Hello All,

I'm trying to figure out how to drop my '96 Accord's fuel tank for inspection, then replace it. Is there a guide or DIY somewhere?

Or is there an easy way to inspect it while still on the car?

Thanks,
-Alex

Why do you need to inspect it? Is it leaking or are you looking for something?

It's leaking and I'm looking for rust.

In your case, since it is leaking, you may not have to take off the drain bolt before you remove it. Nah, j/k.

Here is some info.:

Another question. I'm going to the junkyard to pick up a new (well used) tank. What should I look for? Which models and years are the same as mine?

Thanks

I believe that the gas tank is the same for the 94-97 Accords. The part number is 17500-SV4-A31. You can google that number to check which shows it to be the same and also use this link to check the number against your specific Accord:

If your getting one from a junkyard I would have it cleaned inside before installing to remove any thing that may be in there.

Yeah, I plan on inspecting it before I install it, and will wash it out with gas. Or a pressure washer then with gas if it's really dirty.

I just replaced the fuel filter, but I'll probably need a new one assuming the other one is now clogged. Before installing the new fuel filter though, I'll probably cycle the fuel pump to clean the lines up to where the filter was. Is there anything I can do to flush the lines that go after the filter, or will I need to?

Thanks again,
-Alex
