Pressing wheel bearing in with vice?
Can a hub be pressed into a wheel bearing safely with a bench vice? I don't see why it wouldn't because it would act just like a press, but sideways and has a lot of pressure. I hear of people who also just hammer it in, but I wouldn't do this.
Wheel bearing is for a 95 accord with hub over rotor.

Not a good idea. Bring it to a shop and pay the 20$, you'll be thankful down the road.

I agree, just take the parts to a machine shop.
You could probably press the bearing and hub together with a vise but how would you remove the inner race of the old bearing from the hub before pressing the bearing on?

Torch + chisel and being very careful. I did it once and swore I would NEVER do it again. Only reason I did it like that to begin with was because it was a Sunday and we had to get it done for Monday, nothing was open and had no access to a hydaulic press. Had to replace the baering on my buddys car a couple month later.

In a Junkyard near you.

If you can get to a die grinder you can cut the race thin and then just tap it with a chisel to avoid making a weak spot in the hub with the torch

Wouldn't one of these do the trick to press out the hub or maybe use a vice and a socket of appropriate size and press it out that way and press the hub in the new bearing with the vice?

How much pressure do you need if people are pushing it back in with a hammer?

Re: Pressing wheel bearing in with vice? (technine)
I guess pressing the hub out of the bearing is out of the question if I don't have a vice. I just had it pressed out at a shop and the pressure it took to press it out destroyed the hub. Everything done now.
