oil in spark plug hole!

oil in spark plug hole! (91 accord)
I checked my spark plugs and saw oil inside of it(1 of 4 holes only) and that meant I had to replace my valve cover gasket and spark plug o-rings. So after replacing those two, there is still oil in that one spark plug hole! What could be the problem? I took it the valve cover off to double check and put it back on and when i went to screw it on i broke one of the nut off! danm... now i got two f'ing problems to fix. Can somebody help me out? my car is idling pretty rough rite now because i think its mis firing...

Did you replace the O rings that are at the bottom of the spark plug tubes? The ones you have to remove the rocker arm assembly to get to? There are four round gaskets that go on the top of the tube, then the O rings at the bottom. It's probably leaking from the bottom O ring.

Re: oil in spark plug hole! (RHGSR01)
ok time out here ,,,,,, is the oil in the plug hole whre the plug wire goes in or is it actually that the plug is oil soaked???? if it is just where the plug wire goes into plug and plug itself is not oil fouled it has nothing to do with piston rings and the miss it could just be you have bad plug wire ( s ) ..i would do more investigating before condemning piston rings unless plug is oil fouled than it could be valve seals as well

I replace the valve cover gasket and the 4 o rings that goes under teh valve cover thats it. I didnt know there were another set of o rings on the bottom of the tube where the spark plug sits... what is a PVC?

PVC is polyvinylchloride
PCV is positive crankcase ventilation
i dont think the pcv valve has anything to do with oil in the spark plug holes
but if it needs replacing, then do it.

Re: (Beach Accord)
It's acutally sometimes common to get oil in the cylinders or where the plug wire goes if your pcv valve is not functioning properly or just old. Brand new ones are cheap at honda. I've fixed this problem several times on Accords and B series motors. It's usually one of the last things you'd look at when accessing this problem.

pcv valve has nothing to do to get oil in spark plug holes where plug wires plug in.. the only way is from the spark plug seals .......
now if plugs are oil fouled than it is a different story but if you only get oil in plug holes i would chk the work you did make sure you got right seals and they did not come off when you were installing valve cover

Re: (Mr.Speed)
oil burnage depends on how shot the piston rings actually are, and i think you shoud replace your pcv because it seems like you have never replaced it since you didnt even know where it is

If there is oil in the spark plug tubes and you've replaced the upper tube seals, it's probably the lower tube seals.
Before checking/replacing the lower tube seals though, make sure the upper ones you replaced are in the holes correctly and all the way seated. Also make sure there are no rips or holes in the seal. I ripped one just a little by accident when I replaced them on my 95 EX before. They can be a pain to install and I slipped on one causing me to rip it just a little.

Oil in the spark plug tube is the o-rings under the rocker arms. you have to back out the valve adjusters to remove it and readjust them. The timing belt does not have to be taken off. Just raise the rocker arms up from the other side. I had to change them on my 92 accord. the miss is from the oil shorting the plug in the hole when it gets deep enough to reach the plug wire. nothing to do with rings or pvc. the studs that hold down the valve cover only require 7 ft.lbs. over tightening will break them off easily.

umm, I thought they were only to be torqued to 7 ft/lbs
Atleast thats the torque spec for my Civic (D16Y8) and for my F22B1. I've also seen other people quote this same torque spec else where on this site.

yeah, success, until you break one of those bolts. don't take offence, we were just correcting you. if you want to torque them to 13 then go ahead and keep doing that. But that is the wrong torque spec and you shouldn't be telling people that number if it is wrong.

I guess. Just, when you post try and make sure that what your posting is correct or say that your not exactly sure. It would have sucked if this guy took your advise of 13 ft/lbs and broke a bolt or two.

You got lucky, you should go back and edit the incorrect numbers out of your posts so that no one searching finds this and ends up breaking stuff based on your wrong info.
And to those that stated it was his piston rings, learn to read and ask questions before you total someones motor. He stated fairly clearly that the oil was in the spark plug tubes. I'd like someone to find a factual answer as to how this would have anything to do with bad piston rings.
Cam tower o-rings and upper plug tube seals.

I didn't have a problem with you exactly, just the fact that you stated the wrong torque spec and felt it was ok because it worked for you. Not a big deal, just a little correction thats all. You didn't have to go and delete most of your posts.
