Default accord ex Mpg?

My girlfriend has a 2001 accord EX.I'm not sure if something is wrong with her car i think she is getting bad gas mileage. It is completely stock and we drove 200 highway miles and she used 1/2 a tank of gas. That seems like alot. We also had the A/c on the whole time does that use up alot of gas when it is on? please let me know what kind of mpg you get thanks.

Fill up the car and then divide the number of miles traveled by the number of gallons and post your mpg. It means a lot more than 200 mile per half tank. Especially because it is hard to pinpoint when you have exactly 1/2 tank.

My 5th gen gets around 30 miles a gallon though (5sp f22b2).

I believe that the 2001 ex engine should get around the same mileage (a little less if it is an auto).

200 on 1/2 tank is about right. That would be 400/tank, which is what I'm getting.

full tank of gas for Honda's range from 3-4 hundred...for you t be getting 20omiles for half tank would mean 400 full tank which is good. AC kills the gas mileage also, especially in city, try to only use on highway and dont gas it too much when AC is on...it all depends on your driving, how you drive, etc.....but accords/hondas will get very good mpg, just do the simple test of filling full tank when the red light comes on, and divide the miles you get whent he next red light comes on by how many gallons of gas you put in the car...

Perfectly normal.

A/C destroys the gas mileage with ease.

200 miles on half a tank sounds low since the tank is an 18 gallon tank I believe. 200 highway miles on 9 gallons is bad (assuming that she has an I4 and not a V6, I don't know what V6's get on the highway).

However... you really don't know how much gas was used. Next time, top it off before you leave, set the trip odometer, and top it off when you return. Figure out your gas mileage more accurately.

I4:
Fuel Economy
EX Sedan
City (mpg) 23 - 26
Highway (mpg) 30 - 32
Tank Size : Tank (US gallons) 17.10

V6:
Fuel Economy
EX V6 Sedan
City (mpg) 20
Highway (mpg) 28
Tank Size : Tank (US gallons) 17.10

so 200 miles and shes at half a tank (8.55 gallons) That would be 23 miles per gallon

(just did 200 miles divided by 8.55 b.c u said she got 200 and was at half a tank)

if this is city driving she is getting good. If this is highway she is getting bad stuff, but u did say the ac was used the whole time, i didnt figure that in

Hmmm, I usually never put gas in my car until I'm down to a quarter, and even then I only put it about 10-15 bucks to not get it over 3/4 tank. The more weight your car carries the more it detroys your gas mileage, and that extra quarter of gas is about 4 gallons of gas, wihch is a pretty big diffrence. And yeah like the other guys said, drive carefully, coast alot once you get to a driveable speed in city driving. I personally only use AC when on the highway and open the windows in city driving since the wind drag from having your windows open is like having a parachute behind your car I see it as more wasteful than having the AC on blast. I usually only blast the AC though before I leave the house, then put it on 1 just to keep the temp pretty cold. But meh, that's just me. I recently went on a long trip aswell, from my house (springfield, massachusetts) to scarborough beach in rhode island. About 2 hours and 15 minutes on the highway. Took about a 1/4 tank of gas down there, filled up back to half a tank, and then came back on that 1/4 tank, then filled back upto half again when I got home. BTW, rhode island gas prices are insane compared to springfield ATM. Here it's only 2.95...there it was about 3.25. I almost shat meself.

If you really want to know what you get mpg there is a bit more exact method to be used albeit more complicated. First fill your tank, it dosent matter where you are at that given point, then make sure you hold on to the receipt from the pump since that will tell you down to about 3 tenths of how many gallons you purchased. Now drive however far you want, although the further you drive the better idea you'll get. Next time around fill your tank again and get the receipt. Now take the initial gallons on the first receipt and subtract the amount of gallons on the second receipt from the initial. If the number is negative then you know that you used more gas the second time around hence the difference will have to be added to the initial amount. If it is positive then you used less gas the second time and will have to subtract the difference from the initial. Then take the miles you accrued on the trip odometer and divide that final amount. This is your mpg and its pretty accurate! Here is an example:

Initial 11.121
minus Secondary 10.886
= +.235 Here this means I used less gas than I put in thus I will have to subtract this difference from the initial
So, 11.121
minus +.235
=10.886 it seems this number will always be the same if you use less gallons of fuel than what you out in the first time so if you want to save yourself some trouble and this much is obvious then go ahead and take the secondary and just divide your trip odometer with it.
In this case it was 266 mi., not lookin so good huh? Well lets see.......
divided by 10.886
=24.435 (dont forget your sig figs lol)
So there it is all laid in black and white. Hopefully I was clear enough but if not your welcome to tell me Im full of crap and whatever
Peace.

200miles to a half tank sounds decent to me....my 93 accord is getting around 23 mpg with a check engine light on...the engine runs fine, just havent been able to get the car on a machine to find out what the check engine light is on for.

I can get about 450 on a full tank, 1994 Accord LX, 239,000 miles; I have owned it since it had 74,000 miles on it. I just drove 370 miles highway, speeds of 65 and 70, and still have a quarter of a tank left. So 450-500 sounds about right. I averaged 36 mpg on the highway, but that is because I was running my AC a little, on it's lowest setting. I get between 38-40 mpg on the highway without the AC, and only 35 mpg with the AC on full blast. I get 29 mpg in town, which is 60% highway and 40% stop/go. Is it bone stock? Everything except the FULL SYTHETIC MOTOR OIL and the K&N oil filter. Ya'll should try a good synthetic motor oil, the fuel milage will surprise you. The Accord does take advantage of the lower friction coefficient of sythetic; my girlfriends Ford Explorer does not. I also keep my air filter changed every year or two, change my tranny fluid every year. Bone stock.
