Metal clip/shim in caliper
Is the metal clip on the caliper where there pad rests on removable? Is it necessary to keep the clip in? Because the one on my caliper constantly slides in and makes contact with the rotor and makes a sharp squeaking noise every time I start to depress the brakes. I've already moved it to the center but it slid back in and now it's making the noise again.

Re: Metal clip/shim in caliper
front? rear? are you talking about the shim that goes on the back of the pad or the spring that is on the top of the capiler that pushes on the pads? better info you get better answers

Front brakes. Not the shim on the pad itself, the metal clip that the pads rest on the bracket, if that helps. I'm on my phone right now so I can't post a diagram.

The metal clip that the pads rest on the bracket is very important its because it prevent the pads, that can produce a loud knocking sound every time you press the brake pedal especially sudden brakings.

Is there a way to stop the clip from moving out of place and touching the rotor? It's a very annoying sound and I don't want to keep taking apart the brake assembly every so often to move that clip.
