Default how long till cooling fan kicks in after overnight

94 EX accord 2 dr.

Just wondering how long it should take for the cooling fan to come on after being started (from being shut off overnight). The car has not been exhibiting signs of overheating, but I have not been hearing the fan come on and I am a bit worried there is a problem. I do a lot of long distance driving, so not much chance for it to come on maybe? When I turn on the A/C both fans come on instantly (but that is normal right). Now that we are finally heating up I am concerned.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I just changed out my radiator fan, and I was wondering the same thing as you. So I started the car and let it idle, 15 mins later, no fans came on and I was getting to be a bit worried.

I then held the throttle cable so that car was running about 2000 rpms and about a min later, both fans kicked on, ran for about 30 seconds, then shut off.

Try keep the engine rpms above 1500, that should speed up the process and eventually both fans should kick on.

The engine coolant has to be above 90°C (194°F) it will get there faster if you hold the RPM @ 2000-3000 as mentioned above.

Thanks to you and previous poster. Yeah you were 100% right. Fans kicked on when at these RPMs. Really appreciate it!

im having an overheating problem on my 00 civic si. the bypass hose was split. i replaced it but seems to still be running hot. not sure if i got all the air out the system but i ran the car with defrost on and heat up to 8k gauge standed still i turned off the defrost and heat and ran it again. that time the gauge started increasing temp. once i slowed down shifting at 3k car gauge started to decrease. i let the car sit adding coolant when need be but as i hit the throttle some white smoke came out the tail. im wondering if it could be from the extra amount of coolant added in the radiator or if its from the hg. need help!

You should start your own thread in the Civic forums. It sounds like you have a blown head gasket.
