If so, it would make a racket in gear/underload. But quiet in P/N. Kind of a clanging noise. Fairly sure the plate is 0oz balance.

THIS! we use it all the time in shop, we get in so many older vehicles that have had numerous leaks, with buildup all over, & you have to pinpoint 1 bad leak that is hard to figure out with so many small leaks. it can be used for any leaks, whether power steering, tranny, oil, or antifreeze.
using dye & the special light in a dark area, the leak will pop out where it is coming from, usually we just do a 3 mile ride & check. we have found some rare interesting leaks over the years. my favorite was a rubbed pinhole in a timing cover that wasnt caught by previous mechanic, the water pump had gone bad & was wobbling, & pulley had cut a groove in timing cover in a inline 6 in a Jeep Cherokee, with 1 small spot completely worn through, then mechanic that did water pump got him for oil pan gasket & front seal, & valve cover gasket. with the dye I was able to see where it was coming from, & knew it was a problem with timing cover, or front seal, & when got it tore apart, it was easy to spot & showed customer, he has been a loyal customer every since.

Hey I have an 02 accord, just replaced the distributor O-ring hoping it would solve my oil leak, but it still drips heavily. Drips heavily after driving, and very little to none once cool.

It seems to go away under load or with any increase in pwr. But once returning to idle it will rear its head and clatter loudly. using a steth I could isolate the noise to the scatter shield area the tranny (whirs) fine the crank/pan (slops) the exhaust (blows) " ()= sounds " lol, But when you get to the cover plate inspection cover scattershield piece there is a loud screech metal on metal? but with-out the steth its a rattle/nocking sound? Any ideas.

There is a black metal, half moon shaped flywheel/flexplate access cover that can be removed. It is held in with a few 10mm bolts. This cover goes on the bell housing (covers the portion that extends downward beyond the oil pan, where the engine and transmission meet). If you remove it and there is oil sitting in the bottom of the bell housing, the rear main seal is likely the culprit.
kidcool1977 mentioned it could be your oil pan gasket which is a possibility. The oil pan gasket doesn't last too long on most honda's and one that is leaking on the rear of the engine could cause oil to leak down the above mentioned access cover and eventually to the very bottom of the bell housing.
Is your oil level correct? Too much oil can cause excessive pressure in the crankcase and force oil out seals, such as the rear main. The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation System) is designed to deal with the gases and pressures that build in the crankcase, a fault in that system will cause similar things.

Almost Junked my 94 accord because it had a serious oil leak on the tranny side and it was not that o ring near the distributor.
It was the "vtec solenoid" That is between the distributor cap and the fuel rail. Nearly mistaken for the rear main seal of death. $16 odd shaped oring both O'rileys and A.Z. told me they couldn't even order it. Got lucky and even tho I had to go to the "hub" on a sunday Orileys had it. Saved me!!!! Maybe I missed it but I saw no mention of this possibility.
