Default hey new to accord and such

hey im marko im 16, and i just got a 90' accord w/ 78K on it its an EX for 1900$ ($2400 with tax) and an old grandma drove the car, and i can tell you theres alot of dust and such under the hood, and i was wonderin what simple stuff ( possibly bottles of spray etc) could i use to clean it up? Also my tires make noise when i drive fast, and my 1st gear when i drive it like revs up real fast n shifts n then its fine.. i was wonderin if that was normal, and when ever im slowing down my steering wheel sorta bobbles, and i just want some good awensers here, im new so don't be too harsh! thanks!

Let me be the first to welcome you to HT(honda-tech). I normally do not post in the accord section because I only have crxs. But I happened to see something I might be able to help you with.

To take care of the dirty engine the best product I have found is simple green. Everyone is going to have there favorites but I love this stuff. Just mix it to whatever ratio you want and spray it all over the engine. Take some water and some rags and start cleaning. Sounds to me like you need some new tires though. It would probably take care of your noise and the bobbling you are getting. Its either that or your axles are shot. Your tranny problem sounds like something that is normal from them cars. My sister has a 90 accord hatchback and hers does that. I would just check your trans fuild. Good luck with everyhting and post some pictures.

Doesnt look to bad. Not a big fan of the interior. But for your first ride its in great shape. What is your future plans for the car?

I feal friendly so I thought I would upload a picture for you. It usually helps with people looking at your page.

Welcome 1990AccordBoy. As far as the tranny goes, check and see
if the sport, or the over-drive function is on or off. When sport is turned
on, it shifts harder and stays in gear slightly longer too. Harm84 has you
pretty well covered on the rest. Look into engine mods, body kits, graphics,
suspension, and there's tons more to turn ur 1st daily driver into a head turner!
Take care, and have fun.

well... i need new brakes for sure, because the only way it slows down when im doing 40, is when i litereally slam on the brake, and even then it slips a little. I also need a steering alignment because my wheel is a bit cruked ( i dunno how to spell that ) while im driving forward. Then when i get that done, i will fix the rust spots, probably take it to the local shop and see if they have pewter on it. I'm not too happy about the burgandy interior, but 78K on a 90' accord! thats amazing, a grandma used to drive it. As far as that sport stuff, ( its an automatic ) i made sure it was not on sport. Also if its significant, it goes from D4 to D3 with out clicking the **** to be able to shift into gears, i don't know if that has anything to do with it, and also it can get like caught inbetween D4 and D3 in the shifting thing and it wont be in gear u kno.. the interior is in perfect shape just the power locks dont work, sorta ticks me off. I also don't kno if i have fog lights or not because theres no switch but it looks like their there? I also can't get the presets to work, i dont kno how to set my own stations, and that ticks me off too! I think the drivers side speaker is blown/doesnt work but one day ill rip it out n check. Whats good bout it tho, it has a huge trunk which would be nice to fit a NOS bottle or some huge 15's in lol! thanks for all the welcomes !

Edit: i also have a clean carfax on this bad boy, and all the service records and stuff. ANd i was thinking maybe i should use a pressure wash to clean my engine bay! anything i should cover up when i spray it down? i have mad grease along the engine bay, you can't see the silver in it anymore lol!

The best thing to do is cover up the distributor with like a walmart baggy. Then just go to town with some simple green covering the everything. Let that set for acouple minutes then spray her down with some water. Also make sure the car is running. Then take some rags and wipe everything down really good. Maybe spray more simple green and rinse...should be good.

Im not sure if those are foglights (not framiliar with this generation) but you might try turning on your parking lights and seeing if those come on

That's a very clean looking 4th gen. I can't believe how low those miles are for a '90!

Before you do anything to that car, make sure you get that rust taken care of! Rust never sleeps and will eventually destroy a car if not properly taken care of. Thankfully, I live in the Northwest where we don't use salt on the road, but I know it's a different story in the Midwest and Northeast. Hopefully most of it is just simple surface rust and not too deep into the body.

Anyway, enjoy the new ride!

yeah im real worried obut the rust too, i havent checked that if its hit the body but it looks subtle... also i see that i need a MAJOR oil change like soon maybe saturday im going to do it, um i also am gona get it alligned, its just a matter of when i withdraw my tuning money from my bank ( roughly 700$ ) and im guessing to get that rust off its gona cost a good chunk of that so i gota see. I also got the presets to work which is great. my worries are as follows: Oil, allignment ( if i dont do it my tires will get messed up ), rust. the brakes arent a problem because the rotors didnt need cutting, so i just bled the brakes and it helped a bit. They just a bit brake rusty you kno. N e way, i still gota find a shop to do my rust, i was thinkin about going to MAACO but i heard they did crap jobs but i need some where local. And thanks for the comments, yeah its a grandma's car so it was nice, i still have the original stickers and options list on it.

Yea maaco does a really crapy job. I have seen some jobs they done that was pretty good but I think the guy done the bodywork and just took it to macco to have them spray it.
