Engine Flush - Comments and suggestions.
I have a 1997 Accord, and I was in the auto parts store and saw something called an engine flush from GUNK. Well, I've talked to some folks around here about it. Some say it's o.k. to do, others say that your engine has been running with all that lubricant around it for years and it's not good to this.
I don't believe the latter too much, because why would they sell it if it ***** up your engine? I was thinking of doing this because I'm sure my crankcase is pretty dirty and I want to avoid sticky valves, etc. So what's your take on this process? I would appreciate feedback from those who have actually done this.

how funny i was also in that situation. i was thinking about using the motor flush, but then i really needed to change my oil and i didnt have the motor flush with me, i would have to wait the next day to get it. but its not harmful to your car. i work at an auto shop and many mechanics come in to buy the gunk motor flush. im going to use it on my next oil change.
when you use it, you have to poor it in your engine while it is cold. then start up your engine for 5 mins. then you do your oil change.

Yeah, that's what the label says. Pretty simple. I thought it was old wives tales. I mean, you have to make sure your oil is at a proper level to begin with and I bet you those ****** who says it ***** up your engine didn't do that. Which of course makes them a **** up themselves. lol

If you have any reason to suspect your engine is REALLY full of gunk, be careful. Sometimes that stuff can break up the crud in big chunks that plug the oil pickup or filter. Maybe BG or Auto-RX are supposed to work slower to avoid that.

Yeah, I have thought about that too. You know, my oil pan isn't leaking around the gasket, and the instructions say to clean out the oil pan, which of course means taking the bugger off. I guess it wouldn't hurt to put on a new one, regardless of whether the old one is working fine or not?

I have heard nothing but great reviews on sea foam. It is similar in function to Gunk brand, but even better. Do a search here for sea foam and you will see what I am talking about.

You can use a quart ATF (obviously helps to be near the lower bar on your dipstick, you don't want to overfill) and run your engine a couple hundred miles. It has detergents that help clean it internally. Run it with some 10w30 if your worried about it thinning your oil. I ran it in my high mileage accord w/ no probs.
