I have a 98 accord auto and i was takin one of my moms friends to help him move something and when I got in the car I started up as usual but then I put the car in 1 gear and then to 2nd and D3 and he was like this car isnt meant to be driven that way its not suppose to go those high mph in low gears and that i could mess up the transmission, but in the manual it said that I could drive the car like that just not to go into the red. I normally drive in D4 but Ive been recently driving like I had a manual I dont know if it makes it faster or not just seems funner I guess, but will this mess up the transmission even though I drive the gears all the way to the red line b4 i change or should I take his advice and leave it D4.

That will NOT damage the transmission as such. True, don't go screeming around town in first for a 'half an hour at 6000 rpm, but taking it thru the gears manually won't harm anything.

Do you're not doing damage to the transmission as long as you are sensible with the gear selection. Although the only thing you're accomplishing is making you look like an idiot in front of your parents' friends.

You should be fine, I used to do it in my altima once in a while.

Just don't dump it into 1st going too fast.

as long as you don't do a neutral drop or redline it it's fine.

what is so bad about accidentally dropping it into neutral?

i dropped it into neutral doing 65 mph i just pulled over to the side and stopped completely before shifting back into drive.

i think you could try to rev match if you can't pull over.

If I got crazy and hit my tranny in to N I will put it right back into D$ no question

sorry i meant revving it up in neutral then dropping it into gear

...theres nothing wrong with putting it in or out of neutral when you're diving though

Might not hurt anything, but you will burn more gas at 6,000 rpm than you would letting the trans shift gears like it would normaly. Not very brite, grow up please.

The only real times this deal comes in handy is if you are towing or if you are in traffic and are sick of it shifting into 4th. But there is no problem in you doing this on your own all the time as long as you are not redlining every single gear every single time you shift. That is just silly and a waste of gas. If you do it on occasion just when you are pretending it is a manual while racing or something it will be fine.

There is really no point in doing this, although before i had a stick, i did it a couple times and enjoyed it...lol

As long as you don't over-rev it or put it into 2 when you are doing 75, you will be fine. Ultimately the car still controls the shifting, you are just pretty much telling it you don't want it to shift into 3rd or 4th yet.

i only shift between D3 and D4, i use D3 in the city for more engine braking, and better acc.

yep yep but i dunno why u wanna wanna shift 1-2-d3-d4 everytime, an automatic was made to keep u from having to do that and be comfortable and easy

i wouldn't do that with my car. i am not taking chances. it will never be a manual. just swap to a manual. you actually decrease your gas mileage in auto shifting like that.
