Default CLKUP ... question(s) ...

What are the driving characteristics of this CLKUP system?

My newly acquired 98 Accord Coupe EX (3.0 - 143k miles) seems to shift strangely at exactly 50 mph, on the highway, and it seems to be indecisive driving around my up and down hilly town ...

Is THIS the 'variable' lock up system that I feel?

Car is immaculate, from 50 yr old female owner, and I received all service records from day 1.

I'd just like to know from Honda gurus, what's up with the shift sequence, and is this normal operation.

Have you driven a Honda before this? If not you may just not be accustomed to the way they shift. After driving Nissan and Pontiac it startled me too.

I don't know the technical reasons why, but usually when your Honda shifts between 2,000 and 3,500 RPM's it just plain shifts hard. Sometimes it even jolts you forward a bit.

I'm guessing this is what your feeling. If there are any other symptoms let us know.

Oh and I don't know anything about the "variable lock up" system so maybe someone else can help with that.

at 50mph, I do believe that would be vtec kicking. (assuming you are describing the tac going from 3500k to 5000k in one big jump as your accelerating..)
