cleaned out throttle body, now have serious idle surge
i have a 2000 accord with the f23. I had a hose clogged or port clogged in my intake manifold and took it off to clean it. I unattached all the hoses (vaccum, coolant, all sensors) and took off the intake manifold (not the runners, the manifold). Cleaned it out with throttleplate cleaner, then installed a new manifold gasket from honda, and reattached all the hoses.
Obviously, all the coolant i let drain in a pan. So, before i turned it on i filled the radiator with the cap open. Then, i put a resivouir "pan" on top of the radiator cap and filled it- so that while the car runs, it will cycle out the air. Then, i went to turn it on- and i have a serious surge idle. My idle will go from 1500- all the way to 4200!!. -I let the car run for about 5mins, didnt change.
-Hooked up HDS , and there was no code.
-CHecked all sensors and vacuum hoses, all installed correctly.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Oh, and i threw it into gear, and the car surges just like the ideal. It scared the crap out of me, i almost bought my friend a new car!!

someone please correct me if im wrong, but i do believe that the intake manifold is one piece...
anywho. did you make sure the gasket surface was free of all foreign matter?
you said all your vac. hoses are hooked up, IMO, take a propane torch, (dont light it) just turn it one, and let the gas flow over your intake manifold. if your surge dies down, you know the general area of a vac. leak.

well, as I understand you took the throttle body part off of the intake manifold, as if to clean the EGR port, or something?
I one time had this situation where blasting out the throttle body chamber, with carb cleaner, loosened up some crud in the IACV and it got stuck open.
Sure freaked me out.
Might be worth the time to recheck it, not sure it the HDS tablet will read it's position or just the commanded position.
As far as finding a vacum leak spray around with some carb cleaner to see if it changes the engine speed.

thanks for the advice. where do you think i should start? I mean, i need a car, and i cant use this (obviously). I had a feeling it was a vacuum leak, but i dont know from where. And i am still curious as to why the engine revs from 1800 or so to about 4000 rpms and then recylces the whole thing again1?
