Default The cheap accord cat-back exhaust....

I bought the Himoto(Tenrai) 94-97 accord cat-back exhaust off of e-bay for like 230 bucks total. I was skeptical but I did my research by checking his feedbacks (racing dimensions is the seller) and I finally broke down and bought it.

I am VERY surprised with what I got. Yes, there are a couple of SMALL issues that could have been taken care of before but for a 2 1/2 inch stainless steel mandrel bent cat-back exhaust.. I AM NOT going to complain. For all of you guys (and girls) who like to hold your money tight and wait for the good deal, this is one of them. I know I'm going to get asked what the few problems were so here is the VERY SMALL list of them

1. No instructions. Any mechanic can figure it out but the one thing that stumped my *** for a good hour is how to get the axle-back section through the rear control arm area like the stock exhaust... well it doesn't go there. It goes under the control arm. I figured that out and it went smooth as silk.

2. After bolting everything up, I found the exhaust sits against the control arms for the passenger side rear wheel. So as you're driving down the road it sometimes rattles (especially noticable at low RPM). Not a big deal, going to fix it with some simple heat resistent padding.

And that is about it. Like I said, the only REAL problem will be the exhaust hitting the control arms and that can easily be fixed. The exhaust came with EVERYTHING you will need (bolts and gaskets). It sounds VERY nice (though maybe not as nice as my old muffler) and is definatly loud. But that could also be because of my DC sports header and downpipe. Basically, I've not got my full exhaust done and I'm very happy.

So to all you cheapskates out there like me, you can now not worry about at least one thing I know you guys want.

Happy bidding.

yea, my RSR hits as well...just too lazy to wrap it since its cold out and im never home now...that will hapen on all accords w/ larger diameter piping

what you half to worry about are the welds the bolt the muffler to the piping, and the muffler constrcution. is it a straight through/N1 design?

Yea, it's a straight through design. I just noticed though that the pipe is not hitting my rear control arms. It's actually somthing else and for the life of me I can't find out where it is. I'm hunting like a **** though.

I actually went thru racingdimensions.com on ebay I bought a hayame for my 6th gen accord it fit perfect but there were no instructions witch was pretty easy to figure out the hardest part of install was getting those rusted *** nuts off the cat
I got mine for 315 shipped to alaska it only took 3-4 days

all that stuff about getting more hp with an exhaust is just something they say to get your money IMO.

fw190bvi: what kind of RSR exhaust do you have? GTII or EXmag?

EXmag

i gained a TINY bit on the butt dyno, but i do notice the car revs a little quicker, and pulls a bit better once floored -others whove driven my car feel the same way as well

My car is about the same way. Notice a little on the butt dyno especially up top. It seems to want to go a little bit faster also. Not as much of a slow climb to top end...

It sounds really nice and LOUD. holy crap this thing is definately louder than what I had.

Good thing I replaced my exhaust also. It was rusted all over the place and yes, the cat was the hardest thing to seperate from my stock exhaust. I had to cut with a torch to get it off. Stiff reuseable though. Good ol' honda stuff.

Obsidian,

thanx 4 taking the time to share your info...

for that price, a stainless steel exhaust system is good for our region.

ditto mang that post did suck good info bra

if you dont rev that **** up everywhere its not going to be so loud mine is just right as a matter of fact i would never get a greddy evo after comparing the two greddy is raspy and rattley as **** unless your going for that sound JDM?

anyways if its that big of a deal you could still save money by getting one and throwing annother muffler on or just throw in the silencer but honestly I dont use my silencer and if i drive like everyone else its not so loud unless i step on it

dude, you need to learn things from a more technical and scientific level, for starters. im just not sure what you were trying to say here

I agree with the loudness part. maybe I should Restate what I was trying to say.

With lightly on the gas, like a light acceleration, it is pretty damn nice.

When hard on the gas, it's actually louder in the mid-range then at top end.

When in low RPM and flooring it, loud.

When in gear, with no gas and slowing down (clutch and brake at same time)

THIS IS THE LOUDNESS.

I still like it and I appreciate those of you who took my side. I don't know anything about JDM sound but I know I like it, it is not a civic rasp or anything like that. Very nice tone. And if I ever get to the point where I don't like it, well that is what the silencer is for.

Thanks again.

your funny why are you so offended? and thanks for th retard comment buddy FYI my **** isnt that loud maybe if i reved it up to 5000rpm thats about where it gets loud

I did not mean jdm sound i was refering to the user JDM monopoly man and his loudness comment obviously everyone has there own taste if they didnt id be sporting an under car neon lighting kit too

as for sound it is not raspy just deep like I said before my hayame impresses me way more than a greddy evo

how technical can you get with exhaust? and yes you can replace the muffler also you could try putting in the seilencer

dont be so offended alright not that bad of a guy

you can get VERY technical. exhaust gas velocity, temperature, resonance, back pressure, negative back pressure. that all is just dealing with the actual gas molecules leaving, not getting at all into the technicalities of muffler, resonator, and piping design.

im aware of the ability to change mufflers. i wrote the ******* guide to exhausts in teh basic guide thread for crying out loud

here is an interesting article about waves/gases moving through an open pipe.

So everyone can have exhaust that rattles against the underside of their car. Great!!!

What are some of the top brands for exhaust? I mean, not just because their the big names... who's truly the best for quality/performance/sound?

Also, what are some of the top EBay sellers? I've been ripped off by a number of "companies" on there so I'm really skeptical these days...

it rattles because my hangers are worn and are too short. if you want to get into a bebate about the physics of exhaust piping, id be glad to teach you a few things. i wrote it because i know how that stuff works, not because of anything on my car.

this is the last time im gonan say this BLKFLSH, from some of your posts you seem to be very knowledgable. however, for some reason you feel it is neccesary to make snide remarks to both me and other members. if you have an issue, take it to PM or something else. dont clutter the tech forum with personal attacks and comments that you, in your ultimate 42 years of maturity, find amusing

it has been an ongoing thing between blkflsh and a number of other members. most issues with exhaust on 5th gens usually stem from the flex pipe located before the cat
