Broken timing belt
my friend has a 93 (possibly 94) accord lx 4dr. it has a 2.2 SOHC and the timing belt broke while he was driving on the interstate. we called various local shops and they said this model had an interference motor, so it would have crashed the valves when the belt broke. i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem (and what the chances are the valves crashed) and if so what the outcome was because the car isn't worth the quote he got if the heads need to be rebuilt...

Most likely his valves are screwed. But not guaranteed.
Are you (or your friend) able to do a valve-adjustment job? Any valve that is bent, will be WAY out of adjustment for the valve clearance. If you measure the valve lash & it's OK, then he lucked out.

well i'mma tell you this now.. his car is fucked.. i purchased a 92 accord ex on 4/13/05 and on 8/10/05 i was coming home from work and as i shifted into 2nd gear the car stallled.. i said okay maybe i shifted into 4th and stalled the car. i tried restarting the car nothing.. tried rolling start/push to determine if it was alternator/starter problems.. than i realize the way the car sounds like its turning over 2 quick.. come to find out my timing belt snapped.. spent a 500.00 on a timing belt package and come to find out i have a bent valve..
unfortunately i sold the car for 300.00 to some rican dude that works in the shop with his father.. he said he got a used head for 60.00 and waitin for the right time to fix it..
i mean after i got the timing belt package done.. the car would run.. but it backfires like crazy.. bogs alot.. this **** vibrated like crazy.. i would have to rev up to 4k at stoplights so it doesn;t vibrate as much.. felt like car was running on 2 cylinders..
oh well i learned from my mistake.. anyways i should be gettin another cb7 around january or so.. gotta wait for my taxes i guess.

if your belt breaks while the engine is under load, you are toast. if it breaks while it is idling then there may be a chance that it survived. you will at the least need a new head and at most a rebuild if a valve went through a piston.

if your friend got some money go see a car doctor, or else can you guys remove that valve cover then remove part by part and see what happened, may be its not that bad of a damaged, so can fix it..
I am so sorry to hear this kind of things...
I better replace mine...quick
