Which Brake Pads?
Im going to have to do a brake job soon. I figure I'll go ahead and switch out to the Brembo Blanks for the price.
So, Im wondering what pads to put on.
I use my car as a commuter more than anything, but having good brakes would be nice. At the same time, since I put a lot of miles on it (20k+/yr), so I dont want pads that will quickly tear up the rotors.
Should I go with OE pads, or something else?

if ur commuting just get OEM pads.. ANd brembo is just an OE upgrade as well. MIght as well just get some AUTOZONE rotors and some OE pads..
But ifyou want some serious BITE, Axxi Ultimate's !! but they leave a lot of brake dust so expect to clean the rims once a week

I've got EBC GreenStuff on the front and OEM Nissin for the rear pads. Previously I had OEM on the front as well. As far as stopping, both work very well, although I think the EBC have a little more bite to them. I like the EBC over OEM though cuz the don't dust quite as much, and they seem to be easier on the rotors (as far as warping). I put my EBC pads and new Brembo blanks on eariler this summer and have already put 20k miles on them so far (and I'm not always easy on the brakes, lol). Pads still look like new, nice and thick, and it hasn't warped the rotors one bit, still brakes nice and smooth as well. They do still dust, but not nearly as quick as OEM and the dust is a little lighter in color. Overall I'm very happy with them. They'll grip at 100 mph and slow down fast enough to make my ears pop, so that's good enough for me
Plus, you get those cool bright green colored brake pads too! hahahaha

I am using AEM pads on Brembo cross drilled rotors and have had great success. Good bite, and the stopping distance improved a little too
I really need to do SS lines and upgrade my calipers

OEM pads, Brembro or OEM rotors. Don't waste any money if you are just driving on the street.
BTW, Brake Team does all four wheels for $100.

Re: Which Brake Pads? (89_LXi)
thanks 89_lxi, that's good information to know. Seems like you do a lot of high speed braking. Have you had any hotspots forming on the pads from all the high speed braking? My OEM pads have serious hotspot problems. When hot, I get some horrendous shudder, braking at high speed. (NO, it is NOT warped rotors) I think the previous owner of my car probably didn't break in the pads properly. Basically, I do one hard brake from 80-60mph and then the next series of successive brakes are incredibly shudderful. (is that a word?) They still slow me down (I've had doubtful moments though), just not confidently. Have you experienced any of that with your setup? Anything other particular quirks? I've almost decided to go with brembo blanks and greenstuff all around.

Those with AEM pads, can you describe in more detail your experience with them?
High speed hot braking? Cold hard braking? Squeal? Longevity? Rotor longevity? and of course dustiness?
If people would put in their brand, model, car, mileage of use and experience, this could be a very useful thread.
thanks!

I only have about 2k miles on my rotors and pads. I have virtually no dusting, and with the entire combination of pads, rotors, and lines I've had very good brake feel improvement. I have zero squeal and find my braking distances from 65 or so to be better. I don't do any high-speed braking.

I will say the EBC do squeal a bit when cooled down. I'll use them and they'll let out a little squeal for a couple seconds, then if I use them again while they're still nice and hot it's perfectly quiet. After driving for a few minutes without using them though they'll let out another little squeal the next time. No hot spots for me! I can use them over and over and it's always smooth. Other than the small amount of squeal, I've got no complaints at all!

Re: (-RedneckDave-)
Please elaborate. What part about them do you love?
What improvements do they offer?
Please, sell me on your hawk setup.
89_LXi, thanks for the additional info. Although my vehicle is 99% street/daily driven, unfortunately I'm quite an aggressive driver and find myself wasting a lot of gas hitting my brakes really hard I don't think I will mind a little squeal, plus, seems like it will just be a nice reminder every morning that I'm fitted with some trustworthy brake pads.

Re: (daich)
I don't have to sell you on them cause I don't care whether you buy them or not and I don't sell them so I have no drive to push them on you. I will say that they have great feel and tremendous bite. For street driving there is not any need for more than what I have and the pads last a long time.
