Brake hydraulics starting to fail
Typical master cyl issues: the brake sinks to the floor with no associated increase in brake force. Of course, it happened after I had old fluid flushed. I need to get it replaced and I obviously do not know how.
Question one: If I slam on the brakes, the ABS works fine and the pedal is nice and hard. Can someone explain this to me?? Do they operate out of different hydraulic circuits?
Question two: Does anyone know where to find a decent quality master cylinder for my '96 Accord (with ABS)? I'm not going to Midas; but there's got to be some sort of better-than-OEM-for-the-same-price-or-less part I can buy.
Question three: My ABS system cycles all the time now when I start the car and didn't do so before. I know this is normal but it does it more than what I would think is typical. Does this mean anything?
Oh yes--it's a '96 Accord EX; it's a wagon and automatic, if that helps.

I would not associate Midas with quality, they are a rip off. As for cheap high quality parts check out rockautoparts.com. they carry lots of brands from premium to economy and even some OEM.

Reason you can get pressure with a quick pedal application is because the worn seal inside the master cyl. doesn't have time to let fluid seep past it. But, it will still leak as you hold the brake pedal down and if bad enough will bypass fluid with a gradual stop.
I replaced my master cyl with a random brand from Murray's Discount Auto. It's been just fine for three/four years now.
