Best Aftermarket CD Player for 98 Accord?
Okay, after my CD player dying on long road trips I'm breaking down and switching the damn thing out for an aftermarket one. Any advice on which is the best brand/model to get? I'm looking at Pioneer right now since that's what the stock speakers are supposedly. Some guy at the store told me I need to get a special adapter cable to get the thing to work with my car too...is that true? Any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm new at this stereo stuff.

yes you will need to buy an adapter that will plug into your stock radio wiring harness
look through http://www.crutchfield.com for good info on CD players
I have a sony and it is really good and doesn't get to hot at all on long trips

Well, if you care about reliability, don't go with a cheaper brand, such as Jenson or Audiovox, or Awai.
I have had many aftermarket units, and I have to say that my Eclipse unit was by far the best as far as sound quality, looks, and reliability are concerned. I can't remember off the top of my head what model number it was, but it was an in-dash cd player with a detachable face.
I would also recommend any unit made by Clarion or Sony. I had a Clarion in dash cd player in my Accord for the longest time, and the sound quality was exceptional. It had that little "Alphatouch" button, so the track up/down and the volume was all there in one place. It was really a big help to control the unit while driving, seeing as how everything was right there and i wouldn't have to take my eyes off the road. I would still have this unit, but it was stolen.
Now I have a Sony, and I like it pretty good. It is a few years old (used to be in my wife and I's AE92 Corolla GTS). It works really well. I have had other Sonys as well, and they have always withstood the test of time.
About the adapters, you can go to your local Best Buy and get one. They are pretty cheap. Just go to the install bay and ask them for one. CD players are easy as hell to install, so if you have any questions just ask!

I am a big Pioneer fan myself. I have a new Pioneer DEH-P9300 in my car an well as an old Pioneer tape deck that must be at least 6 or 7 years old, and although it dooesn't get much use anymore, it still works fine. I work as an installer and I can say the least amount of problems come from Pioneer and Panasonic.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all your help so far. One last thing to clarify...do I need an adapter cable or not? I talked to another guy and he said that if I go with Pioneer HUs, I would not need an adapter cable. Is he just BSing me or what?

You will need a honda specific adapter. It should be white and have 3 rows of pins if I remember correctly. It changed for 1998 I think with the release of the new accord. I would take the stock headunit out to make sure you get the right one b/c 98 was the changeover year when they went from a 2 rows of pin harness to a 3 rows of pins harness. Another thing that is an option is seeing if you could just get the changer for your car. I forget what brand it is but there is one that is supposed to work with the honda headunits
