Bent Exhaust valve - 1994 Accord LX
Hello all,
I have been looking for information on this all day:
So my step son (newer driver) neglected to check his car's fluids (as I instructed him to). This ended up in the water pump seizing thus exploding both timing belts. I followed the excellent write-up in the forums about timing belt replacement and thought I had it all good to go...until I started it up, haha. It idled great until it heated up then would die at an idle. I figured I did something wrong in the timing belt change and re-went through everything and still had the same outcome.
So, I took it into the shop and they found that the exhaust valve was bent on #1 and stated that is common with something like what had happened regarding the water pump fiasco. So now I will be bringing it home and I am finding several different options...
So, my questions:
- Should I just take the head off, stip it down and take it to the machine shop to be resurfaced and rebuild it myself? If so, where might I find a rebuild kit? What should I look to replace parts-wise? I haven't really run into anything online yet. Any suggestions?
- Should I just buy a nice rebuilt head and just throw it on, then adjust the valves/timing?
- What other items should I change while I have the head off? I know one is the thermostat.
- Should I buy a head gasket kit? Or just the head gasket itself?
Sorry for all the questions, but the last valve/head job I did was on a 289 and a 302 years ago, haha.
Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

If the kit includes cam/valve cover, thermostat, water port, intake, exhaust and other miscellaneous gaskets/Orings that you will need then yes.
Have a couple Windsors myself. These F22 engines are completely different beasts.

Thanks for the replies! I ended up finding a good one on eBay for $200. So I got all the extra stuff and will hopefully be throwing it in as soon as it gets here. Silver lining to this is that with each job I get to sneak in a new tool. Hello pneumatic die grinder! Haha!
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
