Default Annoying sound from 1800 to 2200 Rpm

My 96 accord LX, with 2.2 litre is making a real annoying sound from 1800 to 2200 RPM. weather accelerating or decelerating its makes this sound, kind of an Ahhhhhhhhhh. When it drops below 1800 or raises above 2200 it quites. Never does it at any other RPM. Has anyone else ever had this?

Can you isolate where in the car the sound is coming from? With a specific RPM range like that is sounds like a heat shield on your exhaust is hitting resonating frequency, that explains why it starts and then goes away. Check around your cat (after the car has been sitting for a while...they get HOT) and make sure there aren't any broken hangers, welds, etc. On my 96 the heat shield cracked around one of the bolts and was doing the same thing, but it was a more obvious rattling noise at certain RPMs.

^^ He's probably got it. Is it sort of like a metallic buzzing sound? I've got the same and am planning on just taking it off next time I feel like getting under it.

It is the exhaust. Get new headers and the sound will be gone. If you need some inexpensive headers, go to ebay and get some for about 100 bucks and get some new gaskets.

Here is the noise you are hearing:

the heatshield are gone on the cat, i already removed them when the cat clogged and i gutted it. it could very well be the heat sheild on the downpipe. Would the header make it louder? hmmmmm, might be louder but may improve fuel ecomony.
