98' Honda Accord warning lights...among other problems :)
Hi, recently our 1998 Honda Accord Ex (4 door 3.0) has been having some problems:
When you start the car, all of the warning lights will come on (battery, brake, SRS, ALL of the door ajar lights...all the lights are on). Sometimes they stay on for a couple of minutes, sometimes they don't ever turn off until you take the keys out (doesn't matter if you are driving or not, they just stay on).
Well, my wife drove it one day and the car started acting really funny, the lights were all on and when you pushed the gas pedal in, it would sound like it was in neutral and just rev up (even though the car was still in gear). She pulled over to the side of the road and the car stalled and didn't start again. Well, when she told me I thought that it was either the battery or the alternator (cars can do some crazy crap when the alternator goes out). We swapped batteries and the car started right up...the warning lights didn't even come on!!!
So I thought that was that...that is until the next day. The warning lights started doing the same thing (they were all on). Now here is the new stuff that started happening: The door locks sound very slow at locking and unlocking when you push the lock/unlock buttons. Sometimes they don't even have enough juice to unlock the doors at all! Also, the windshield wipers move about half the speed they are supposed too.
I opened up the hood to pull the alternator to get it tested, but when I grabbed the wire that connects from the back of the alternator to the fuse box...the wire came right off in my hand!! I noticed it was corroded so I decided to cut them off and re-strip the wire and hook it back up. After I stripped the plastic/rubber sleeving off of the wire, it was corroded under that too!! Can the whole wire be corroded up to the fuse box?? Would the wire cause this kind of problem or is it more likely a computer related problem? Also, what is the name of this wire and where can I get a new one?
Sorry for the BOOK that I wrote, but I like to be as thorough as possible.
Thanks for reading,
Brian

Have you had the ignition switch recall done?
The dealer can check by the VIN and find out for you.
I'm not really sure what wire you are needing to replace, But if it is just a single wire the local parts store should be able to help you.

Ignition switch recall you say? Nope, I'll have to check that one out. The wire I'm speaking of goes directly from the alternator (the part with the rubber boot and nut that you have to remove) and goes into the fuse box (looking under the hood...it is on the passenger's side near the windshield). I believe it is a 6 gauge wire...it's pretty thick. Thanks for the reply...I'll have to look into the recall thing.

Warning lights stay on when engine is on. it drained my battery, had to get new one. Alternator is ok, but when I press the cable connected to alternator the warning lights turned off for a moment, then came back on. Notice this happened after oil and filter and fill up the gas tank. Went back where I had the oil changed, he checked with a meter at the Data Link Connector, and said is sensor related. Could this be it or cable of alternator. Took it to Hondaland, they installed parts 35130-S84-A01, 91319-PAA-A01, AND 37250-P07-003, the engine light stayed off but not the others warning lights, they stay on when engine is running.

Ok, Looks like that's the ignition switch and the VTEC solenoid that were replaced. The VTEC solenoid probably fixed your 'Check Engine Light'. The ignition switch was an attempt to fix all the other lights. Does your car run and drive okay other than those lights being on?
