90 Accord ignition lock
My 1990 honda accord ignition swith is locked in the on (3) position, can take the key out while running, starter grinds when in park or N brake light stays on with the brake off. The only way i can get the car to shut off is by killing it and disconnecting the battery to keep from running dead since the ignition is stuck it the on position, all i have to do to start it is plug it back up. What would be causing this?

Re: 90 Accord ignition lock
Sounds like you will have to remove the ignition cylinder in order to repair it.
There are also switches and solenoids in the shifter. One might defective and causing the vehicle to think the car is still in drive. Although, if this is the case the ignition would still return to the first position...
Were you using a new or different key then your main one? Sometimes the cylinder gets used to working with one key and any new cut keys may get stuck.

Re: 90 Accord ignition lock
Have you tried turning the steering wheel back and forth ? There's usually a secret sweet spot that allows the key to turn. You're going to need to get a new ignition lock cylinder. Then find the spot at which you can press the small pin in and then you will know which spot you need to get the key to in order to press the pin in to remove the old lock cylinder since you will need to replace the old lock cylinder, provided you can get the key to turn. You will see the small pin in the new ignition lock cylinder when you pick it up from the parts store. When you get the key to the particular position you need you will push the pin in, and pull out the key along with the lock cylinder assembly.
In a worst case scenario someone will need to drill out the entire ignition assembly. You'll probably need to have a shop do this.
