2002 Accord SE accelerator pedal stiffness
When my wife or I get into the car in the morning or after sitting in the
cold for a few hours, the accelerator pedal has a bind in it. If you tap it
hard, it frees up.
I've checked the pedal, the cables, and the throttle valve. All seem okay.
Anyone else had this problem? What was the solution?
Thanks.

Call your local Honda dealer and have him perform Bulletin #01-004
It does not mention your specific vehicle in this bulletin ... but we experience this problem on all of the Hondas. It has to do with additives in the fuel causing a varnish type buidup in the throttle body at the plate. It will stick on the initial step on the gas ... then not happen again until the car has been sitting for a long period of time.
Here is a quote from the bulletin:
SYMPTOM
When the engine is first started after the vehicle has sat overnight, customers may "feel" the release of the throttle plate through the accelerator pedal. Some describe it as a one-time "pop" sensation.
Customers may have trouble explaining this phenomenon because
^ They can't repeat it because it only happens one time, when the engine is cold.
^ The accelerator pedal works normally at all other times.
^ There are no other symptoms.
^ It may be intermittent, happening only during cooler weather.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The symptom is caused by normal build-up of contaminants in the throttle bore, combined with expansion and contraction of the throttle body.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Partially remove the throttle body, and clean it with Honda carburetor cleaner or throttle plate and induction cleaner.
