2002 Accord
Might be buying one soon and I'd like to know if there are any common problems/recalls in these cars. I know the v6 transmissions are crap so that's out. How do the 4 cylinder auto transmissions hold up?
This generation is all new to me. I've owned a '90 and '97 accord before, but never anything newer than that.
Thanks

The auto trans in these had a flaw. With a proper re-build you can correct the flaw.
Other than that, if the car has spent time in a "rust area", inspect the sub frame on the pass side for signs of rust.

Re: 2002 Accord
I have the 4 dr 2.3L SE version. Even though the whole steering system is world class quality, the steering wheel vibrates while turning the wheel towards center. My transmission is giving signs of failure at 95,000. 1st speed hesitates to go into second and back. I did stomp on it about 5 times, which is wat probably fucked it up. Car was driven in Boston by a woman before me. All that was ever replaced that I could see was the calipers and sway bar links.
Doing a swap to manual on these is worth it in the long run if you can stand driving a stick. But a rebuilt auto transmission with better clutches and torque converter will last as long as the car. The problem with original transmission is 1st to 2nd gear slippage and hesitation due to clutches. Like you start the car and drive after a minute or two and the 1st gear would go all the way up to almost 3000rpm before shifting to 2nd. 2nd to 4th is fine. The torque converter is ok I think. During a test I got to 80mph with 3000rpms.
All in all, to get a new car of this quality nowadays, you'd need to spend over $20,000. I bought mine for $8500 after tax and interest.
I hate most of these new car designs. Once you're in one, you can't see **** outside. In a Honda/Acura, you see everything. Maximum observation. So for me it will be 90s cars for life.

Not all faults will trigger the CEL/D4 lamp. A bad/dirty pressure switch will cause a delay in the upshift. There are other issues, with the design of the trans, but some have had decent-good luck with them.

2002 Accord Manual transmission problem
So guys, I was going through Craigslist and came up upon a 2002 Honda Accord w/manual transmission. He's selling it for only $600 for the following reasons:
Transmission is stuck in 4th gear.
164*** miles
He also stated "Parts car or Fixer Upper"
I want to know what I might be getting into here,
I heard many flaws on automatic transmissions, what about manual transmissions?
$600 sounds really sketchy to me, so I need to know if I get the car, will I be looking into putting at least over $1,500 or more into it. Or what should I look out for when going to view the car?

Re: 2002 Accord
It could be stuck in gear for a multitude of reasons, from damaged/worn shifter parts, to someone being a ricey-racer and damaging the transmission.
If it's a kid selling it, then it was probably damaged/neglected. If an mature person, it may simply be a part failure.
Find out the history of the car and note the overall condition of the car before purchase. If it is a hammered shitbox, forget it. If you are familiar with the chassis you may have an easy fix to the problem.
