1997 Accord AC/Cooling Fan Issues

1997 Accord AC/Cooling Fan Issues
Been working on my son's 97 Accord trying to get AC working.
I have checked every fuse and relay - all are good.
The radiator fan and cooling fan both work when engine temp gets hot enough. They both work when I jump the low side temperature sensor. The cooling/compressor fan works when I jump the high side sensor with the ignition off.
The AC light on dash comes on when AC button is depressed but the compressor does not nor do either of the two cooling fans. When engine is cold, the compressor, when jumped at the relay plug, does run but the fans do not.
Fairly certain I am fully charged with R134A based on my simple gauge. Have not yet had it professionally checked but first trying to determine if that is the next step. My question is that when I jump the condensor to get it turned on, should the coolant/compressor fan then automatically engage and run? Even with the compressor dead (not jumped), should the coolant fan engage by default with the AC turned on? Not sure what the causes the cooling fan(s) to engage when AC is turned on (i.e. does the compressor need to be functioning - normally, not jumed, for the fans to turn on?).
Just want to be everything else appears to be working before diving into potentially costly compressor/AC issues.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: 1997 Accord AC/Cooling Fan Issues
the fans only come on when the compressor is cycled on
my first impression is that it sounds like there isn't enough refrigerant..perhaps a leak

Thanks for the response. That is what I suspected.
Still wondering though should the fans come on with the compressor running when jumped at the relay plug? I am guessing not - just looking for confirmation
Thanks again

Re: 1997 Accord AC/Cooling Fan Issues
it's the ecu that energizes the relay for the fans and the compressor so if you just are bypassing the ecu to turn the compressor on then the fans aren't going to be turned on by the ecu
