01 Accord Overheating
I have a 2001 Honda Accord LX 4-Cyl with 282,000 miles.
Recently it has been having an overheating problem while sitting in traffic or drive-thrus. The cooling fans do not come on by themselves, but will come on if the A/C is turned on.
As far as I am aware there is only one cooling fan switch, which I replaced a couple of weeks ago. When I replaced the cooling fan switch I noticed the old one had a bunch of corrosion on the terminals. After replacing the cooling fan switch it would only turn on both fans when it temperature was higher, and not just the driver side when it should have.
Now neither of the fans turn on, unless the A/C is on.
Is there another sensor or cooling fan switch that I am not aware of and it's location? Is there something else that I am not thinking of?
Radiator is not blocked or leaking, and the coolant level has not changed. This only happens when idling, no problems when driving.
Oil level is normal.

Using this illustration describe what you replaced and where you bought the part

When it comes to cooling system parts it's really best to go OEM. This isn't something you ever want to try to save a few bucks on. If your car overheats and you don't catch it it can ruin your engine in no short time and cost you a lot of money and aftermarket parts will not even last half as long as OEM.

Re: 01 Accord Overheating
I replaced the Thermo Switch Assembly (or number 15). I got it from an autoparts store, because the dealership is fairly far away. I was going to take it out and test it with an ohm meter over a boiling pot of water, as the Honda's factory service manual suggests.
It only overheated once, but got very close a few other times. Now I have been driving with the A/C on to prevent it until I can figure it out.
Also it has been having a start and stalling problem that I was about to post in another topic.

Re: 01 Accord Overheating
Pull the wires off the switch/sensor - insert a jumper wire or paperclip into the female side of the connector.....turn the key to on/pos II - Do BOTH fans come on?

Also checked the cooling fan fuse in the fuse box in the engine compartment, as well as the cooling fan fuse in the driver side fuse box. Both were fine.

Re: 01 Accord Overheating
If you jumped the connector at the fan switch and the fans turn on that should mean that the switch itself is bad or wrong one(wrong opening temperature perhaps). Test it or buy a Honda switch or if you're lucky just pull one from the junkyard if you can find your car there.

I replaced the switch again and now both radiator and condenser fans come on.
I'm pretty sure though that the radiator fan is supposed to come on way before the condenser fan comes on.
