2012 Civic Si Clutch Issues

Re: 2012 Civic Si Clutch Issues
yeah.....when your car is being fixed under warranty, mechanic will give zero **** about other parts. mechanic will only replace what it need to be replaced, not what will be need to replace.
so yeah, they will not touch the clutch or bother to inspect (unless it look like bird feathers like picture above) because later on they can charge you to replace it.
sadly this is how dealership/careless mechanics runs the shop.
however, if you have time, you can request to see the clutch if you hang around.

Re: 2012 Civic Si Clutch Issues
I never created a video because when I went to try the car wasn't making the noise, go figure. I think it has something to do with the weather warming up again.
Brought it to the dealership anyway and they heard the noise. It was diagnosed as a bad throw out bearing which they're replacing under warranty.
Should I be pushing for a new clutch? I read a few threads about how a bad TOB will wear the clutch. I'm assuming they will check for significant wear when they pull everything apart.

Tell them to remove it, and show it to you.

So they took the car apart and realized it wasn't the TOB so they didn't touch that.
They said it was a noisy input shaft bearing or main shaft bearing.
The paperwork states they ordered 3 different bearings but the summary states they replaced the main shaft bearing, counter shaft bearing and seals.
The car hasn't made the noise in about 20 first gear engages so I think I'm good.
Should I be worried that anything is worn in the trans?

Having never heard of that, I would assume it's more common with these newer cars than the old stuff with 100's of 1000's of miles on them lol
I'd say you're pretty well off now, although I still find it odd this is what's happening with such low mileage.
It's largely in part due to the lack of double wishbone suspension though.

Yea it pretty sad, the car has like 32k on it and about 29k are highway.
Old GSR had about 140k and not one issue with clutch or trans.

Re: 2012 Civic Si Clutch Issues
Sorry just saw this.
I got it with like 60k with all the original service records. I guess they could have not come forth with everything but I don't think so. I called all of the places that were on the invoices and carfax.
Cluth and Trans seemed bulletproof on that car, it shifted about as good as any car I have ever driven and it had 130k plus on it. Only issue was it burned a crazy amount of oil, at this point I wish I just rebuilt the motor tho.
I search craigslist every now and then since I sold it and havent seen a cleaner one in my area in 2 years.

Latest update on this car:
It started vibrating when engaging first after about 3 days with the new bearings. It almost feels like the wheels are spinning or the clutch is slipping. I don't think it slipping though because it grabs hard in all of the gears.
It does it maybe 1 out of 4 times.
I brought it to the dealership and they said none of the techs felt it. I talked to one of the techs and he said it was probably the flywheel needs to be resurfaced. The only thing is it just started this after the new bearings.
I'm now wondering if my transmission case is shot and its only a matter of time until a bearing grenades and I need a new trans. I guess in that case that can't bs me and will have to fix it.

Anyway they could have screwed up the clutch springs?
Originally they said the problem was the throw out bearing so I imagine they removed that to examine.

Re: 2012 Civic Si Clutch Issues
Ughh what a joke, I was just searching google about this issue and came across this thread as I forgot I created it.
So its been about a year and the car had a good run with no issues until about a few weeks ago they noticed a leak when I was getting an inspection.
At first Honda said it was the front axle seal so they replaced that with no luck. Then they replaced the cv boot and dropped the transmission and replaced the galley plug. They drive it 70 miles and now its not leaking supposedly.
Move ahead two weeks from that and the car is making the grinding noise engaging first again.
Now I'm back to square one, hopefully I can get them to replace the clutch under warranty assuming that's the problem.
Honda also tells me its too late to get an extended warranty at 50k when assuredly I'll have some issues after the 60k powertrain or the 12k they give you for the work performed.
So off to the dealership multiple times again when I have a chance so hopefully they take ownership of the noise. I'm thinking about opening a case with corporate not that it will get me anywhere. For sure the last new Honda I buy.

Pro Honda buying tip: look for cars that just came off of the truck.
Where the rear license plate goes, look for multi colored stickers.
Every sticker color represents a problem where they had to send the car back to get something fixed at the factory.
The fewer stickers, the fewer problems it had.

I wonder if other manufacturers do the same thing?
