Re: Slipping clutch and horrible (rubbing) noise upon lifting throttle
Excellent. So the install depth of ~1.8" will be enough to cover the bearing and the seal. I have access to a lathe and those competent enough to use it at work, so hopefully this will only cost me time and the $20 for the sleeve rockauto offers.
What does the width measurement signify? And why are there two widths?

Re: Slipping clutch and horrible (rubbing) noise upon lifting throttle
ok, so the saga continues. After searching high and low for a machine shop that could actually do the work, I finally got the input shaft taken care of today.
I ended up having to buy 3 input shaft repair sleeves from the half wits at cockauto and stacking them against each other on the input shaft where both the bearing and seal ride. Of course this was a bit too big for that bearing race, so after they were installed, I had them ground down as well. The fit seems great. Hopefully I remember how to put this transmission back together.

Yes, the input shaft bearing lost it's cage and the ***** were riding against each other ans the shaft itself riding on the transmission case with I believe causes the worst of the whirring/metal on metal sounds. Car drives great. I got 64mpg on my last tank.
