Reading Spark Plugs...need help
Pulled the plugs out to check and noticed heavey ash build up on cylinder closest to the timing belt. Any of you engine tuners have any idea's? Best I can figure is some type of fuel additives or possibly burning oil due to worn valve guides/seats.
Things to know:
-H22a engine
-Chevron Supreme only
-Chevron fuel systyem cleaner every 3K miles
-Mobil 1 synthetic oil
-Car does burn alot of oil(supposedly common in these motors)
-Oil found on spark plug crush washers of other 3 cylinders(is that normal?).
-stock plugs/stock gap
thanks for any help

When was the last time you looked at/changed your spark plugs prior to this post? A while?
To me it looks like the plug closest to the left in the photo has undergone some detonation along with oil burn. You mention that H22s burn oil more than usual motors tend to (I don't know, I would have imagined that ALL Honda motors were built with fairly good oil seal...) so I would assume that your other plugs show signs of rich mixture with oil. You don't by chance have an intake/header combo on the motor? Driving habits may be a little "sporty?"
ANYWAYS, good luck!

Re: Reading Spark Plugs...need help (OptionMan)
It's been about a year or soo since I changed the plugs. I'm pretty sure the car has been running rich during this time considering the black soot always left on my back bumper. I'm gonna do a compression check today and inspect the new plugs I dropped in yesterday to see how they look.
Thanks for the help guys!
Ohh, and yes, have the standard I/H/E w/ lead foot.
