Is it possible I jumped a tooth?
I have a b16a with a timing problem. I have my idle set at 850rpm's and my distributer is advanced as far as it will go. The timing is still very retarded. Could it be the belt jumped a tooth or even worse could it be stretching and going to break soon!? I just put a new distributor on the car thinking that was the reason the car was running like hell. It's a JDM engine and should have around 45-50 thousand on it by now. Thanks for looking. Any help or suggestions would be great.

You can turn the engine over with a socket on the crank pulley until the timing marks on the crank pulley line up. Then remove the top cover so you can see the timing marks on the cam pulleys and see if they line up properly.
Considering that the b16's have often been sitting around for a while before coming over here, I would consider it to be a really good idea to replace the timing belt on a swapped motor.

Yes; if the power steering in still in use, you can rotate the power steering pulley by using a 19mm wrench rather than turning it at the crank. You need to make sure that the timing is correct. A drop pins or punch can be used to see if the cams are lined up correctly.
But, if you have not replaced the timing belt. I would highly recommend replacing it now.

usually they just break without giving warning. But it is very possible it jumped a tooth. It has happened to many people. I had a belt mysteriously jump a tooth, and while doing so it decided to rip some teeth off the belt. Dunno how the car survived that one.
