I would suggest finding the cheapest POS CF hood you can find. You will probably have to use 4 hood pins, but it is your best bet.

The cheap ones, are really made shitty, so they are usually the lightest. I bought one 8 or 9 years ago that was the lowest quality i could find. It is stupid light, right around 11-12 pounds. A few other racers bought the cheapest ones they could and they are also really light.

The only hood i have seen lighter was a expensive 2 off carbon-Kevlar that didn't have a skeleton. these hoods came in at 7lbs each on the Fed-Ex scales.

Even the metal skin is heavy, but it is cheap. I don't think you could get a OEM hood down to 15lbs

Or look for companies selling fiberglass hoods. Most of the CF hoods out there are just a fiberglass hood with one layer of CF on them. So the fiberglass only version is lighter and usually much cheaper.

bought a beat-dick cf hood, gutted the **** out of it, popped it on some hood pins, and it weighs around 11-12lbs. Only way to roll.

IIRC the stock Prelude hood was 42 pounds and the used VIS CF hood I found on craigslist was 22 pounds.

We should gut your hood and see how much it weighs. I'll probably cut most of the skeleton out of the CF hood I have.

This link isn't for a prelude hood, but it should give you an idea of how much different hoods weigh.

Most of the weight is from the skin. There isn't much weight savings from gutting the skeleton. I probably only saved 2 or 3 lbs from gutting my CF/FG hood.

Maybe I will just take my hood off, and cover the huge gap from bumper to windshield with racers tape!! That would be super light and gehttoriffic!!!

I think I'm just going to gut my OEM hood. I can't find a cheap CF hood for less than $450 shipped. $450 for -20lbs off the car is a bit steep for me. I'm going to keep an eye out for a used or slightly damaged one for next year though.

Thanks for all the info, and help guys. See you in a few weeks at Mid-Ohio!
