H22 Cylinder no.4 low compression fix? common problem?
I seem to read alot about cylinder no.4 on the h22 engines being lower compression than all the others. Can someone tell me if there is a known fault or a known way of fixing this? I have this problem on 2 H22A engines and my buddy has the same problem on his H22A7. Is it piston rings normally? If so why is it always the no.4 cylinder to drop first?
Thanks in advance

cylinder 3 is the odd one. if a motor blows or something its almost always 3. not 4.
thats why tuners always have to adjust cylinder 3 differently then the others...

Re: H22 Cylinder no.4 low compression fix? common problem?
I havent seen 3 go yet, thou Ive just got a 3rd H22 I havent tested yet. From my experience (maybe its the english climate lol) I have problems with the cylinder nearest the distributor. Is this just a piston ring thing? Im hoping theirs a design flaw that if spotted early can be avoided.
On one engine its had a full rebuild with darton sleeves and forged parts.... the other h22 I just left as is (other than manual cam belt tensioner swap). The third engine has 153k miles, the cam belt has skipped a tooth and the auto tensioner failed. But I havent tested the third one yet, it will be interesting to see the comparrisson.
Is it worth starting a h22, mileage vs compression thread/chart if this is a common problem?

Here are the results of the compression test off a friends H22
dry 1- 212, 2- 215, 3- 200, 4 - 125
wet 1- 240, 2- 250, 3- 250, 4- 132
Im struggling to find the compression results off my H22 but they were marginly better on Cyl no.4

I need help I have low compression cylinder 3
my numbers are DRY wot - 140, 145, 80, 150
WET wot- 155,160,90, 165
i know it's more likely valves but is there anything else I should look for like seats, seals or guides?

best way to find your problem is to do a leak down test.
