Honda crv 2.2 diesel acceleration problem
Hi All.
It all started with a broken turbo shaft. I had the turbo replaced with a reconditioned unit and all was fine, until. the second turbo failed after 3 weeks with a seized bearing.
Back to the garage I went and they replaced the turbo for a second time. After I got the car back I noticed that the acceleration was totally inconsistent with the turbo kicking in at various RPM, anything from 2000 to 4000 RPM.
Back to the garage again and after 3 days the only problem they could diagnose was a sticking EGR valve (the smaller one on right hand side of the engine) the valve was sticking up.
Because I had lost confidence in the garage I said I would look at the EGR valve myself and cleaned the valve stem and sprayed it with wd40. This cured the sticking EGR valve but not the acceleration problem.
Time for the big guns, off I go to the Honda main dealer (through the back door) and the guy diagnoses the turbo vacuum control unit. I replace this and the acceleration is better but still not right and after 2 weeks it is as bad as before.
Some things that get the acceleration back to normal whilst driving along are.Pressing the clutch and revving the engine upto 4500 rpm or quick acceleration / deceleration a few times. After doing either of these the car will be perfect until the revs drop to below 1000 at the traffic lights then the problem returns. Another way I have just discovered is, whilst stationary, rapidly pumping the brake pedal until it goes hard. the car will then pull off perfectly.
When I look at the engine whilst someone pumps the brake I can see 2 things happening, 1 the turbo waste gate shaft lowers slightly and a valve on the air intake rotates slightly.
Sorry its a bit long but I thought the more info I can give the better.
Thanks in advance
Kevin

Re: Honda crv 2.2 diesel acceleration problem
Hi KevinKirk,
Sounds to me like a boost pressure leak, or lack of pressue - Have somebody do a boost pressure check.

Kev

Could you describe the symptoms of these? Something I forgot to mention before is that on over-run I sometimes get a deep noted reverberation.
Cheers

1/ Lack of power.
2/ Exhaust smoke emmissions due to unburnt fuel >>>> White / gray in colour.
