Honda CR-V making weird noise after timing belt install
Hello everyone. Two weeks ago I had a friend of mine do a full timing belt job on my 2001 Honda CR-V AWD auto. I got it back and it was definitely messed up. The engine had lost a lot of torque. I brought it back to him after a week and he confirmed that one of the cams was off by a tooth. He set it correctly and now it is running fine... with the exception of a loud clunking noise which seems to be coming from the engine head. It sounds like valve ticking but it is hard to say for sure. The engine has 175k and while I am sure it is due for an adjustment, I am wondering why it just all of a sudden started making that noise after he re-installed the belt. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions that could help me in diagnosing and/or fixing this problem? Thank you!

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: Honda CR-V making weird noise after timing belt install
Was it for sure only off one tooth? The only thing that could all of the sudden start making a "clunking" noise from ONLY a timing belt change is bent valves from the cam gear being way off. This of course assumes that the valve settings among other areas went absolutely untouched. Heck, for all you know he left a tool somewhere.

There isn't much more to add. You need to do more checking and be proactive on your end; check some things out and get back to us.
