CRV Catalytic Converter Replace With Test Pipe?
Okay so heres my situation im replacing my exhaust due to it being rusty and having to many holes. While replacing i notice my cat being shot aswell. Now i looked everywhere and for replacement costing to much money. But i looked up Test Pipe From Blox and blackworks with the 02 sensor Socket. Has anyone tried this ? Any thoughts ? i know about the smog and everything but is this a good substitute ? i just wanna my drive my crv again .

You may get a bad reading from your downstream oxy sensor but it wont affect your performance negatively, possibly better performance. If your downstream isn't throwing codes with a rusted through cat it may not with the test pipe.

Your performance will suffer, because it will throw a cell and run in limp mode. It will give you a p0420 code saying catalyst inefficiency. Buy a manga flow for 65$ and put that on there in the least. I can't beleive people are still trying to put "test pipes" on daily driven vehicles. Drives me nuts.

My guess is if your exaust system has a bunch of holes in it and you seal it up tight... it is an improvement. As I said, you may trigger codes by putting in the test pipe. I think you should replace the cat if you think it's bad, the test pipe is a good tool to help you determine if it needs to be replaced or not

Dc, I fabricated a test pipe last night and installed it in place of the cat on my 98 automatic cr-v, there was no noticeable change in performance. As expected it set off ecu code 67, this is the same as po420 that LD was worried about. Again I would encourage you to replace the old cat with a new one, having the check engine light on is annoying and you wont be able to tell if there are other problems with your car. I would recomend you buy an aftermarket unit made for your rig as opposed to a generic one, installation will go much smoother.
