rotary button constantly going bad...need help please
so in the last 10 days or so my car has just died on me and both times it ended up being the distributor button...my mechanic says that the distributor just can't handle to force that is given to it if i go past 4500-5000rpms. he suggested a high performance distributorless ignition system. i have no clue what that is, but he told me it would be quite expensive and what im wondering is if there is an alternative solution to this. also if anyone experienced anything similar before.

I assume you have a b16. YOU NEED A NEW MECHANIC! I run the distributor on my b16 up to 9000 rpms. It can handle it. TRUST ME.
and WTF is a rotary button?

Maybe you mean the distributor cap and rotor? usually those are the things that get replaced when the dizzy goes bad. It was probably the first thing your mechanic tried replaced.

probably, sorry. distributor and rotor. but anyways so a 90-91 integra distributor and rotor should work for my b16a obd0 right? i think i'll try replacing it tomorrow. plus i am correct stating that my mechanic sounds to be 100% incorrect? he is trying to brainwash me i think.

90-93 teg dizzy WON'T WORK. YOu have to break one of the "pegs" off and do you really want that on your dizzy? Try just replacing the Cap and Rotor which you CAN get from a 90-93 dizzy along with the Coil and Ignitor.

what exactly is going bad with your distributor ROTOR ? is it melting? if so, then its likely your distributor bearing is toast, causing too much heat, melting the rotor and throwing off the timing. you CAN replace the bearing yourself, i dont have the website that explains how but its not a normally factory servicable item, or just get a distributor.

the mechanics explanation was that the rotor spins so fast at higher rpms and cant take it that the metal rod in it breaks and the rotor itself just becomes no good. thats what he said.

yeah i think im planning to but for right now if this "mechanic" has to replace the rotor within the last two weeks twice, should i just go ahead and buy a 90-91 integ distributor and replace it?

if you're using aftermarket parts it could be your culprit. use a rotor and dist cap from acura for the 90-91 integra

get a new cap and rotor at the same time. they sell em in matched pairs usually to work together
