Pen Cap In Gas Tank...
I was putting a locking gas cap on the civic, and it didn't fit. So I went to go put it back in the package when my nephew who was in the garage with me started to stick a pin in the gas tank (there was no cap on it yet) and I grabbed his hand and the little door caught the pen from falling in. I went to pull it out and I guess there was a cap on the end of it and it fell in.
I have not moved the car yet, I'm hoping it got caught in the tube before it went into the gas tank.
Do I have to drain it? Any suggestions??

eh! i would drop the tank and try to pour it out. i would not think it would be as bad as water or dirt, seeing as how the pump will not pick it up.

there is a piece of metal with a spring that covers the hole when the gas cap is out
that should have saved it

That's what saved the pen from falling in, but when I pulled the pen out, the cap got stuck on it and it slipped the cap right off the pen.

So is the car driveable? I'm sure the fuel filter would stop it before it would cause any damage. I just don't want to mess something up

There is a "sock" type of filter on the intank fuel pump. There is no way that pen cap can get through it. If the cap is plastic the gas should soften it or melt it anyway. If it was my car I would just forget about it and drive the car

He is right, have you never stuck a hotwheels car in gasonline overnight when you were a kid?.....??..no............ok so I'm the only one..Anyway the gas eats everything off and leaves a bare metal shell which is what will have happended to the cap by now depending on how long it has been. By the time you removed the tank there will probably be no pen to retreive.
just let the car sit overnight and it will be fine by morning
