SOHC ZC Engine WTH?!?

Re: SOHC ZC Engine WTH?!?
Nope, just because it's on the internet, doesn't mean it's true. Be careful, you may end up dating a french model....
But it helps to have more details. Are the plug wires on the intake side or exhaust side of the valve cover? What does the valve cover say on it? most importantly, is there a VTEC solenoid?

the D series wiki is the worst wiki document ive ever seen.
that needs to be trashed, and whatever thread on Honda Tech that keeps getting bumped needs to be deleted from here too. too much bad info.

If you head cover says V-tec and you got a V-tec Soleniod then you have a SOHC V-tec!
If you got DOHC and your engine block starts with D then you got a Non-Vtec ZC. Simple as that and don't get confused cause there not that special of a motors.

Kyle - Pretty sure you have the equivalent of a D16A6. I don't recall any of the newer style non VTEC versions saying 16valve on the valve cover. Are you spark plug holes on the exhaust side or intake side?

Yep, equivalent to the D16A6. VTEC equipped ZCs all have the spark plugs leaned over on the exhaust side (actually all D series based SOHC VTEC in general). Intake side is older PM3 style head, so it's equivalent to a D16A6 from an 88-91 Civic/CRX Si/EX.

Probably, but not necessarily so - could be the dual carb version (103hp) with D16A6 intake manifold
OBD1 SOHC non-VTEC ZC says "16 valve" on the cover - this is picture of OBD1 SOHC non-VTEC ZC:
I don't recall any of the newer style non VTEC versions saying 16valve on the valve cover.

Re: SOHC ZC Engine WTH?!?
I know and I was thinking about clarifying that last night too but I figured most would understand the difference in the wording. I shouldn't assume
For the most part I take it as SOHC ZC 88-95 vs 96-00, disregarding OBD differences. 88-95 ZC non-VTEC regardless of OBD configuration is still mechanically speaking an A6 no? Maybe variation in cam/compression but more or less the same. And then VTEC is same as Z6 by default. Then 96-00 is just mechanically speaking the same as we have here, VTEC to VTEC, non VTEC to non VTEC (again disregarding cam/compression variation). After figuring out which style the physical block/head is, I look for the smaller identifiable cues that can be changed and confuse people as to which specific ZC it is.
Maybe I think of it too simply. I try to keep in mind that ZC really just means 1.6. With all the confusion that's what comes across as easiest for me.

Re: SOHC ZC Engine WTH?!?
once again for people who dont know what "ZC" really means...
ZC only designates:
1. D series
2. 1.6L
3. not an engine from the US market.
Any other variation that fits, is still ZC.
Such as:
1. Single or Dual Cam.
2. Vtec or non-Vtec
3. MPFI or Carburated.
ALL are ZC as long as its 1.6L and D series.
if you have a 1.5L Single Cam D series, then its stamped D15.
if you have a 1.6L Dual Cam B series, then its a B16.
ZC = 1.6 D series. thats all that it implies.
WHY??? who the **** knows....
