D16A6 with oil leak... from main?
I have oil running down the transaxle of the car. The distributer side of the engine has oil on the transaxle and drips down a bit every 5-6 days. I want to fix this... where are the usual areas that leak? (engine has 186k on it)
Also, are there any posts with changing valve cover gaskets? Have oil on the plugs, and wanna fix that as well.
Thanks guys

You ever change a valve cover gasket or head gasket? The valve cover gasket is very simple to change but to change the head gasket you need to take the head off and if you haven't ever taken off a valve cover I wouldn't suggest do this yourself. Check around the distributer to see if there is oil leaking from around it, the cam seal might be bad.

I've never done work on a Honda, but I have built an engine for my old Solara (supercharged) and did a transmission swap.. so i'm pretty mechanically inclined... I don't think it would be too much of a challange minus the unexpected things

you might not have to change the head gasket. Just pop the valve cover shave off any kind of gasket or sealer off and buy a new valve cover gasket and torque down the cover. degrease/clean the engine and look out for leaking areas and report back.

Could be the distributor o-ring as well. Just mark the distributor's position with a marker, then take it off with the three bolts. There is a rubber o-ring on it that should be swapped out if you havent yet.

replaced the valve cover gasket.. thats not it... It is coming from right below the distributer... has oil on both sides of the metal bracket that bolt the distibuter to the engine.. anyone have the OD,ID of the distributer o-ring for a D16A6?

pulled the distributer... o-ring was brittle, and broke when I removed it... replaced it.. pretty sure that was the source of oil leaking...
thanks guys

You don't have to replace all the gaskets, but since the guy before you neglected the car it would probably be a good idea if have a down weekend. My motor has 525,000 miles on it so I replaced all the gaskets and it still runs like a champ. You just can't beat a honda!
