D16 tranny; seperate bellhousing from gearbox?
I need to isolate just the bellhousing of a D16 transmission. I took out ~14 12mm bolts holding the two casings together. They seperate about 1/2 inch but they are clearly still fastened somehow near the differential, where there are two female splines for CV axles. In RWD transmission I would usually see some kind of c-clip to remove but I couldn't find anything like that with this one.
Anyone know how to seperate these?

There is a c-clip underneath a freeze plug on the end of the transmission. Let me try to get some pics for you, hold on a sec...
Look through my old build thread a little, I tear down a D-series trans and rebuild it.

There is a write-up on a B-series transmission in the FAQ.
It's similar to the D series you are working on a far as tear down goes.
I found this one on the net - pictures are a bit clearer.

5th and 6th pic down shows it farily clear.
