Blown head gasket
So i had a blown head gasket in my b18a1 engine so i resurfaced a b18b1 head and slapped that in but now my timing belt isn't tightening right. i hand cranked it 6 times, put it to TDC, loosened the tensioner, moved over 3 teeth (even tried moving it 5 and 8 teeth over) , tightened it, hand cranked several times, and checked at TDC but it was still kinda loose. My only guess is that the machine shop shaved off too much. Any help on this?

Re: Blown head gasket
Oh when i started it, it was making kind of like a slapping sound? Maybe the belt was slapping the valve cover. cant really tell.

Re: Blown head gasket
B18A and B18B use the same belt, pump, sprockets, and tensioner. 0.005" off the head isn't going to make the timing belt loose.
You must not have set the tensioner properly.

Re: Blown head gasket
Okay i found what was wrong, when im supposed to loosen the tensioner, i did not loosen it enough so that it can snap back and put tension on the belt. So i just loosened it more and it was fine. Thanks guys.
