zex 59300 cam in a d16y8-timing issue
i have a y8 swap in my 93 cx and i just recently installed a zex stage 2 cam(59300) for a z6 along with an adjustable cam gear. my question is this-i read in several posts here on ht that in order to install the 59300 cam in the y8 you had to advance the cam timing to 5 degrees. but i am confused because the cam gear i bought says that every mark = 2 degrees at the crank. i have it set at 5 degrees right now and it runs strong, just ran a 15.4 @ 87. but i want to make sure i have it at the right setting. so since i have it set at 5 degrees right now does that mean that i have it advanced to 10 degrees?? i really hope not! i

what kind of cam gear is it? I heard i think it was the AEM cam gears every degree equals 2 or something. Not sure though, but i'm pretty sure it was those.

it's an obx cam gear. i think most cam gears have the same markings. every mark = 2 degrees. i just need to know if it is advanced too far. i thinkit needs to be at 2.5 -3..

do a search on http://pub143.ezboard.com/bhondadseries
its been covered before and someone actually got a hold of zex (which is unheard of) and asked them

if im not mistaken, it is 2* of CRANK timing for every mark on the cam gear. The crank rotates at twice the speed of the cam which then you would divide the degrees of the crank by 2 giving you 5 degrees of advance for every 5 marks of the timing gear. so, if it says 5, it means 5 degrees of CAM timing which is what you want. I hope im right cause mine is set at 7 and if that means 14, im fawked

if you adjust 5 degrees at the cam gear,
that means that you are adjusting 5 degrees of CAM TIMING
the cam gear is attached to the cam afterall!
cam timing adjusts independently of crank timing.
it DOES HOWEVER adjust IGNITION timing by twice, so if you adjust the cam 5degrees, then your ignition timing has been adjusted 10.
basically you need to bust out your timing gun every time you mess with cam timing and redo your ignition timing(the ammount of ignition timing that was changed isnt really important, you just need to know that your going to have to set it back to where its supposed to be)
