Default thinking of buying a friends wrecked civic with 26k

Hi, I am currently a VW guy, but have respect for Honda. Right now I part out newer VW's and plan on opening a small VW salvage yard.

I have come to realize that hondas are great cars to part out with such an enthusiast following.

My friend recently wrecked her 98 4dr civic... not sure of the trim level (LX, EX,etc), but I do know that it had manual windows and hubcaps.

The car was hit in the side so the front clip and airbags are still good. It had an auto trans and the car only had 26k miles on it.

just wanted to get some opinions on this cars potential and how much I should pay. how much motor/tranny/bags/ and other parts are worth. Any high dollar parts that I wouldn't be aware of? I was thinking I should pay between 1500-2000 for the car

i would think its worth more than 500. I go to a lot of auctions and there is no way I could get a 98 civic w/ 26k for 500. I pay 1-2 grand for late 90's VW's all the time.

This is not a builder, just a parts car.

Parts off of an automatic don't exactly sell like hot cakes to the enthusiasts. If it's an lx, dx, hx the motor won't be worth as much as lets say an ex. Is it totalled or can it possibly run again?

its only worth $500 if you are able to strip it down further and sell enough parts off of it to recover twice that..... which i doubt you could. the engine may be worth up to $400. not much else you could sell except for used scraps.....

i'd say pass on it.

it is a 4 door dx, Just to let you know. Also if you can get it for no more then like 700 Bucks then go for it. You can sell interior peices, and the body panels that are still good. But anything else good luck. But if it WAS a Ex that was manuel then that would be a whole other story. good luck to you and welcome to ht.
