OBD port problem: POWER
Hi,
I failed emissions because the OBD port of my 97 Civic DX is not working. Pretty sure it's not getting power. I took the bottom panel off and took a look around and it seems the power wire goes into the firewall, but can't locate the location afterwards. Anybody know where the OBD port gets its power? Anyone have any other ideas as to what the problem may be? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

to see if you have power just take a volt meter and ground the black lead to the #4 Pin on the DLC and the red lead and put it on the #16 pinthat will tell you if you have power to the DLC... is the motor stock? if you have a jdm ECU it wont communicate....

I'm pretty sure the car is 100% stock. I bought it used on here.
It's definitely not getting power or it's not grounded properly. I'll check the ground. Do you know where the port connects to the power source or where it's grounded? Does it go back into the ECU?

the DLC (OBD2 port) is powered (white/red wire) through the 7.5amp fuse for the interior lights in the underhood fuse box. Top right of the fuse box, one to the left next to the 40amp screw in fuse.
ground is supplied though a very common ground connection... G401 which is on the driver's kick panel.

Re: (Relic1)
when you say interior lights, you mean just the dome light or everything, including the dash. Because the dome light on the car doesn't work either but the dash lights work. Maybe I just have a blow fuse?

I hope not. I checked the fuse box and there wasn't a fuse in that spot, so I placed another 7.5 amp fuse in there. Now my dome lights work (horaay!). I have to wait until I get home to see if that cleared my OBD problem.

Re: (Relic1)
yup you're right. Dome light works, OBD port works, passed emissions. Thanks a lot. Couldn't have done it without your help.
Thanks a ton.
