JDM OBD2A P72-013 GSR ECU - Does it look for ELD sensor?
Hello,
I have a 1998 Civic that I put a 1998 OBD2A JDM GSR motor in to. (The motor does NOT have VTEC pressure). Turns out that the harness I purchased for it is a Canadian harness...
It does not have pin A19 (AltC). I'm not terribly worried about this as we don't really need it for this swap, as discussed in the 9 page thread. Basically it has a 3 wire alt. plug as opposed to the 4 wire plug on the motor. I can color match and forget the AltC wire. No big deal.
It also does not have an ELD (Pin D16)... Canadians didn't have the ELD. Now my question is... does my OBD2A JDM GSR P72-013 ecu look for the ELD??? I know OBD1 P72's DO look for the ELD... and they also look for VTEC pressure.
Can you shed any light on whether or not the JDM OBD2 P72-013 looks for the ELD?
Thanks!

I know the OBD1 JDM P72's DO look for this code. They also look for the VTEC pressure swtich.
Just need to confirm the OBD2A P72.

im sure all computers look for ELD. i know JDM ECU's don't look fo knock sensor though. ELD is in the distributor. if ur throwing a code for ELD, gotta get a new Dizzy or check the wiring.

I love all the random odd answers to this... go here... http://www.b18c5eg.com/EcuDefinitionCodes/
scroll down to the JDM P72 (indexed under the MCU code of 269)
download the bin, open it in Crome. It will tell you exactly what's enabled and disabled.
knock sensor - enabled
ELD - enabled
Atmospheric Pressure - disabled
Injector test - disabled
O2 - enabled
O2 heater - enabled
VTEC speed check - enabled
VTEC coolant check - enabled.
BTW: -__- there is no way you could have been more wrong. I only hope you were kidding.
ELD is disabled in several JDM/EDM ECUs
JDM ECUs (P30 and P72 for starters) look at the knock sensor.
ELD is in the under dash fuse box
before everyone jumps up and down screaming this is for the OBD1 ECU... OBD2 JDM ECUs use basically the same code in them as the OBD1 ECUs. simply internal different parts and different plugs.

There's no bin for it. Wtf. I just heard that most JDM ECU's don't really look for it. I KNOW OBD1 does for SURE.
PS: NO the ELD is NOT in the distributor. It is located in the fusebox under the hood.

^^sweet thanks for telling me that..im sorry for giving false information lol. this whole time i was thinking about the CYP sensor (that was in the dizzy). and i thought all JDM ECU's don't look for knock sensors. thanks for telling me.

Pretty sure I can switch the ELD pin over if I can figure out how to depin the cabin connector. (not the ECU, I know how to do that part).
Can anyone comment on if A27 is used on the JDM ecu for FANC? It's missing on the canuck harness as well.

I dont understand how the canadian harness is different then the USA Harness, since Canada Si = USA EX

Canadian OBD2 civics don't have an ELD (which is why you will never see a Canadian complaining about lights dimming on a '96 - '00 Civic) Because there is no ELD our alternator use a 3 pin plug and different voltage regulator in the alternator.

Re: JDM OBD2A P72-013 GSR ECU - Does it look for ELD sensor?
I wish mine didn't have it... what a pain this has become!!!! I considered just pinning in the ELD wire.
Also, can someone explain why Canadian harnesses don't have pin A27 for the FANC fan control? What drives the fan relay???
Explain that.

there's a temp switch in the head that turns on the fan.
all DM's have that, but A27 can be used to turn on the relay as well.

Does the fan switch turn on the relay?
I thought that the fan switch sent a signal to the ecu.... ecu cut voltage to A27 and the fan worked. According to the service manual 12v means the relay is powered, and the relay is closed. That's always a safety precaution, that way if voltage gets cut, the fan just runs.... no overheating because of it.

on a USDM engine, the temp/fan switch and A27 are connected to the same pin on the relay. (either can turn on the relay)
on a JDM/EDM engine only the temp/fan switch is connected to the relay.

Re: JDM OBD2A P72-013 GSR ECU - Does it look for ELD sensor?
So technically if I run this canadian harness in my DX, it won't be that big of a deal? The fan will work? I can't afford to pop it in and not have my fan work at all. I don't guess pin A27 does anything from the sound of it.
Sounds like if I can swap over the ELD pin, I could make this work.

Re: JDM OBD2A P72-013 GSR ECU - Does it look for ELD sensor?
the relay's contacts control the 12V line to the fan (sourced through fuse 57 in the underhood fuse box)
but the relay's coil is controlled via a ground signal (12V is sourced through fuse 17 in the underdash fuse box)
so if the green wire has 12V, the black/red wire will have 0V, if the green wire has 0V, the black/red wire will have 12V.
all DMs are wired without the A27 connection, except USDM which has it.
your CDM harness will work fine.

Re: JDM OBD2A P72-013 GSR ECU - Does it look for ELD sensor?
2 last questions:
1). The backup switch is different on the canadian harness... can I just color match the plugs and swap over the other one?
2). How do I depinn the cabin connector to swap over the ELD wire from my bum harness?

as stated via IM
1) yes
2) should depin like the ECU plugs, all though I'm not sure, it's been a while since I've looked at that plug.
