ignition switch ?
Hello I'm am trying to remove the ignition switch/tumbler off my 96 civic ex. I wondering how to unscrew the bolts holding the bracket down of the ignition switch, on the steering rack. Thanks for any help.

Re: ignition switch ? (nighthawkgsr)
These are know as sheer bolts. They were put on there for anti-theft purposes. Yes, they are a bitch to get off, but it can be done. Here's what I've done in the past. Using a small drill bit drill 3 holes on the sheered off bolt head. Space them equally about 120 degrees apart. Next, utilizing a punch and a hammer you can tap them loose. If you're interested in replacing the ignition you can simply utilize a bolt with an allen head (I believe a standard six sided bolt head will have clearance issues). Finally, in my applications I got rid of the lock to the column and converted the car to push button start (with an alarm of course). Now I don't have to dig for my keys. I'm thinking of switching to a k-9 sombra alarm (or similar) so the car will automatically arm/disarm without touching the transmitter provided you have it on you, just like the Prius does.
