Fuel System Cleaner?
My engine has just under 140k miles.
I was thinking about running some SeaFoam through my gas tank, oil, and vaccuum lines. For the longest time all I heard (and saw) were reputable, good reviews. However, after mentioning this idea to a coworker he said he had done the same thing to one of his past cars and it dislodged so much crap it destroyed the engine and he had to junk the car. This got me worried so I went to my good friend Google. After doing some intense reading I found that although SeaFoam is generally considered to be safe, Techron is considered better and is actually approved by most car manufacturers. I also read that some users of SeaFoam will remove their O2 sensor while cleaning so it doesn't get messed up. Now I would normally just go to the Techron, but I'm not sure if I am overreacting. I am also worried because I also suggested SeaFoam to my buddy (he isn't a car guy, so he has to trust my judgment). Now I feel like if something goes wrong with his car (2003 Hyundai Sonata 4 cyl, 130k miles) he will get mad at me and there will be problems... BIG problems since he is going to college and is also a political figure in this city, and not having a car will really mess him up. We are going to treat our cars together, 2 weeks from now. Anyway, I was wondering what you guys have used, what you reccommend, don't reccommend, and whether my concerns are justified.
As usual, many thanks to all you on H-T.

Re: Fuel System Cleaner?
My EJ1 has well over 300K. I usually run seafoam through the tank and through the vacuum tube during my yearly tune-up. And she loves it, the car seems to run better right after.

Re: Fuel System Cleaner?
I personally ran BG 44K before and although it cost about $20 for a bottle, it is well worth the money spent.
From my experience, after I have used the product and I was doing a spark plug change, I was curious to see if there was any carbon developed on the pistons. However, I didn't and I knew that the product was doing what it has claimed to do: removing engine deposits and etc.
I will say that I recommend using the BG 44k.

Seafoam scares me to add to the engine directly through oil or vacuum, but maybe I'd try the gas tank.
But, yeah Techron or whatever the dollar store is selling for the gas tank.
I don't really think it does much though, it's like a placebo if you ask me.

Why does it scare you? I've seen videos of reputable car guys adding the sea foam to their vacuum lines and their oil. you are supposed to get an oil change right afterwards, like within 10 miles of pouring it in there I've even heard. Do tell me why though.

Re: Fuel System Cleaner?
You're supposed to change your oil immediately afterwards because it breaks down and thins out the oil. Yes, it cleans out all of your oil channels, but it also make your oil next to worthless.

Yeah, son, I knew it breaks down the oil, but I was wondering why dazebreak thought it was scary to add SeaFoam to your vacuum lines...

Re: Fuel System Cleaner?
I read someone said it dry rots the valve guide seals or something and 'cause my engine needs something along the lines of valves and/or piston rings, so I don't want to agitate it.
