Flat Tire Noise While Driving
Ok, on my way to the Honda dealership this morning to get my car worked on a sound came from my engine bay that resembled the "thud, thud, thud, thud" sound that you hear when you have a flat tire. So I pull over, check the tires, lug nuts, look in the engine bay to see if anything was loose or bouncing around, etc and I find nothing. So I turn around (home was closer that the dealership) and go home. Sure enough, as soon as I start to move it happens again. The faster I go, the faster it "thuds". Any help would be appreciated as it is my daily driver. BTW it is a 93 Del Sol Si.

check and see if anything is hanging off one of the axles or any of your belts. Maybe a something is starting to come apart and there is a chunk thats hitting the car as you drive.

Re: (upgraded)
Unfortunately nothing is hanging and no fluid leakage. I did a search for "thud" and there are a few topics but nothing that really helps. I did replace my axles already but that was about 2000 miles ago and there were no problems after I did that. This is just an all of a sudden thing.

I've never heard a wheel bearing make a thud sound. That starts off as more of a "hum" or "whirrr".

Thanks for all the reply's. I just went out and checked the tranny fluid. Unfortunatly it was full. So I took it for a spin around my neighborhood. The noise was still there but it is way more noticable when you are turning. It shakes and feels like the wheels are going to fall off when I take a corner (note: this was at maybe 5-10 mph ). Sorry I didn't add all this info in the first post but I was still half asleep and pissed.

see ifyour wheels are torqued.
see if your axle nut is loose,
see if your axles are loose
and what did they work on at the dealership?
i would have just taken it back to them since they just worked on it and now this noise, i know sometimes its too much time to go back...

Do the thuds get closer together the faster you go?
Have you locked up your brakes lately?
I know that a horribly flat spotted tire can make noise cause serious vibrations

Re: (KlauseVanBula)
cxSHOE - I was on my way to the dealer ship for a water pump and timing belt replacement. So they hadn't touched the car yet. Which would be great cuz then they would fix it FREE but now I gotta pay for something.
KlauseVanBula - No I haven't locked up my brakes. Yes the thuds get closer the faster I go.
I just searched for wheel bearing and out of the threads that I read, it doesn't sound like what this is.

Well......here is the official update. I am an *** and was in a hurry when I changed the wheels and didn't torque them to spec. AHHH this is why you should always be calm when you work on your car. I got frustrated and checked everything from the axles to the tranny fluid, to air pressure, etc and didn't even check the one thing that makes the most sense. Oh well. Thanks for the replys.

Re: (civicdx860)
the bad wheel bearing noise is similar to the loose lug nuts noise..
ive had both
have u hit any hard bumps or curbs with ur wheel lately? even slow (5-10mph) hits with a curb of some sort could cause ur wheel bearing to go bad. i dont see how wheel bearing could go bad unless uve had a sudden bump to ur wheel
i remember when i had to replace my wheel bearing because i got my arm stuck in the steering wheel as i was turning and went to reset my mileage.. forgetting my arm wasnt out yet i let the p/s do its thing and catch my arm as i was still turning and hit a curb hah

Re: (xFlipNotiKx)
I remember I had that problem. It got so bad that I pulled over. It was night and I couldn't see ****. Drove home 25 mi. at 40 mph. Next day I went to take off my wheel and was missing a lug nut. Two of the other ones were about to fall off and the last one was nice and tight.

Re: (civicdx860)
check the tires and make sure there isnt any bubbles. i bought a car off some guy and there was the same thumping sound.. i checked the tire and the front pass. had a bubble in the tire.
