Default D16Z6 good with a P06 ECU?

I have a 94 Civic DX hatch with a D16Z6, well today I was just curious about what type of ECU I had (i bought the car like that), and when i removed the carpet, I was surprised to not see a P28 ECU!!! It was a P06!!! The VTEC in my car is wired so that you just have to flip a switch and VTEC kicks in at 4800rpm, my question is if it's save to drive with that ECU or should I get a P28 and connect it? If i do swap it for a P28, would the power be altered a little? Would i still have the ability to turn on/off VTEC when ever i want to or will it be automatically? Any comments would help, thanks.

Its probably running kinda lean with that ECU, and your redline will be lower than it should be. Also your vtec isn't going to work, even with that switch, you'll hear it engage, but the problem is a vtec ecu also adds more fuel during vtec operation and a switch wont do that. Get a P28 if you can.

thanks, so pretty much im facing a plug-and-play operation? if not, do i have to rewire the 3 wires from the selonoid to the ECU?

The P28 will plug right in, but your going to have to rewire vtec if its going to a switch now, you need to run a wire from the vtec solinoid to pin A4 at the ECU and a wire from the vtec pressure switch to D6 at the ECU, the other wire coming from the vtec pressure switch is a ground.

cool, I just got one last question. Would it be more economic to have vtec in my control or the ECUs'? Would I get any CELs if I keep it as a switch rather than as a automatic action? And when I turn vtec on, my car idles extremely low and uses a lot of my battery, what could be causing this problem?

let the ECU control it. the VTEC lobes have different fuel and ignition requirements.

VTEC on at idle... it should run like crap, that's not a problem.
the VTEC lobes are intended for higher RPM operation, not idle.
