Icon2 is this a common problem??? Step on brake pedal and corner lights turn on

ok first of all i'm pretty aware that it is gonna and will be a wiring problem. so here's the problems. First problem is when i step on the brake pedal my 2 corner/signal lights come on and stays on like a brake light would and my clock would dim out and my odometer lights come on also but then when i take my foot off it goes off also. Second problem is when i switch my lights on my brake lights comes on and stays on so when i brake you wouldn't notice if i'm braking or not. If anyone has a similar problem please help or if you are aware of what it is please help me out i would much appreciate it. Thank you for looking.

This is on a 93 civic ex sedan.

Sounds like you got a lot of wire tracing to do.

Sounds like you have the wrong brake light bulbs installed. They should be double filament bulbs but you probably have single filament bulbs installed.

check the grounds for your corner lights and brake lights. sounds like they are correded and is grounding off the opposite circuit, also unhook the hazard light switch next and see if they still come on when you press the brake. also you didn't specify if it was the low or high current filament in the corner bulbs turning on, but im gonna guess its the low since the brake lighs come on when you turn your light s on.

Do you have a trailer hitch per chance?

your gonna need some schematics to trace the wires from where they start, probably the brake light switch. make sure you get good power and ground and they are all running to the correct locations. your gonna need a multimeter also!

Check the ground wire in the trunk. It may be disconnected or loose.

In the trunk. Close to the lights. Pull back the carpet.

Even if it looks okay, unscrew the ground connection and use a wire brush or file to clean it up and put it back together. You may find corrosion that was hidden under insulation or between connectors.

sorry for the late post but this problem has been fixed for a while now. it was the wire itself to the brake lights that were bad. after i replaced that wire everything worked properly, the wire probably had a short in it. thanks for all the help.

min having the same problem as well in my 98 integra that a guy I bought it from built. He redid the whole car and put the battery in the trunk. I’ve switched my jdm headlights since it was cracked and still all the lights come on when I touch the brakes. I know the wiring very well in the car. If you could just tell us what wire was bad in yours or any other idea it might be. Thanks
